    Your right on an objective level, a 550 is an awesome car, far more capable than any of the cars you list and possibly undervalued. For me however, as much as I would like a 550 in my garage (actually there is but it isn't mine), I wouldn't want to have one instead of my Daytona. It's something I find very difficult to explain why but no other car puts as big a smile on my face as driving the Daytona does.

    The Daytona has the looks, the noise and sense of occasion. If it really does drive like a truck then all I will say is that lots of people really do like driving trucks and this is where its appeal may lie for some. It's obviously a car that is more challenging to drive than most but this is also why it can be more satisfying. Oh, and let's not forget that there's a massive 28 years between the Daytona and 550. You only have to look at the Daytona to appreciate it. Not so much the 550. You really do have to drive it.

    Daytona steering is heavy at low speeds; if you want a car for a tight driveway, mall navigation or parallel parking, the 550 is the better choice. And I agree that 550s (and 575s, even with the clunky paddle shifter) are bargains.

    It's a great car but it's a little silly to compare a Daytona to a 550M in terms of driving. They are almost 30 years apart. Even a Boxer or a Testarossa feels like a truck compared to a Maranello. I agree however that one day it will go up in value as it is a LOT of car for the price of a Audi RS5.

    Although the RM description says the car has been converted to Competizione specifications it doesn't say what's been done to the engine and only lists its power as 352BHP+. I wonder if this had anything to do with the low bid?

    Driving wise, the Daytona is the most fun, fastest, most comfortable and best GT. Take this from a guy who owns most of the 60's cars were talking about and drove the rest.

    I am late on this thread having posted the question back in August: "I can't work out why Daytona's are so cheap (relatively)." on another thread entitled "Which Ferrari is most likely to appreciate".....which rather died a death after my input.

    In my opinion not enough is written about the utter brilliance of the Daytona in terms of it's usability and practicality. I have completed 20,000 miles in the seven years I have owned my car and made three runs down to Maranello, Italy. A few years ago on the way back I completed 500 miles in a day, which was a breeze. I have driven down to Monaco with the wife with enough clothes for a 12 day holiday plus dinner suit and dress for a black tie do in the Hotel de Paris. How many other classic 60's/70's cars can you really (really!) do that in? I reckon I might get down to Folkestone in the fabled Miura, but wouldn't fancy trying to get on/off the train!

    The Daytona should be loved, feted and admired.
    It is an utterly brilliant piece of automotive engineering kit.
    And stunningly beautiful into the bargain.
    I take a lot of photos and there is not a Ferrari or any other car, which looks so spot on from ANY angle or perspective.

    I have owned quite a few Ferraris - 288, F40, 575, Alloy Boano, 330 GTC, 360 Challenge, 458, and Daytona. I can unequivocally state the Daytona is my favorite. Why? I don't know but this car has a soul.

    So did the F40- but wow was that car expensive to own!

    The best quote I heard to describe the Daytona was "there are no bad angles." Very true, one of Ferrari/PF's best.

    David, i never drove a Lusso but did drive a 275 GTB (GTB/2) and agree that the Daytona is miles ahead in driving enjoyment. The sound, acceleration, brakes and even handling are better. You can really measure the progress from the 275 to the Daytona. The same way you can measure how a Boxer is much more modern than a Daytona.
