TPMS problem or no?

On my '06 612 (3400 mi) under hard acceleration I'll get the "Tyre Puncture" warning for one or more wheels.

The tires are fine and a recalibration fixes everything and it stays fine until hard acceleration.

Obviously the TPMS sensors are not working as they should. My question is whether this is a typical - "it's a Ferrari, it's gonna do that" quality issue, or my sensors need replacing? I only have 3400 miles on the car so it seems odd they would go, but perhaps the age has worn them down?

Also, for the TPMS install, do you think its safe for a reputable a non-dealer Ferrari mechanic to install, or is it so complicated I should take it to dealer? Car is now out of warranty.

 

The batteries inside the TPMS sensors are probably getting to end of life. On a 430, their life is approx. 5 years.

If after recalibrating everything works properly for a while, then you get the error again, your problem is likely the batteries.

 

So do you change the batteries in the units or do you change the whole unit?

 

On mine they changed the units themselves, same on my 599 when the batteries failed. They were warranties ( or so I was told)

 

I am pretty sure they are sealed units, you replace the sensor (not just the batteries).

 

Yes. 5 year life. Cost to replace: about 1 large. Try aftermarket.

 

Yuk! Too pricey!

 

Have to ask: How much is "1 large"?

If I remember correctly I paid about $200 CDN per sensor installed.
