I have been doing an airport safety course for work at the moment which made me think back many years to when I worked in Singapore in the mid-1980s. I had purchased my own Miura S (which I still own) prior to mobilising there and was keen to talk to anyone who knew about Lamborghinis. I found that three Miuras were sold new in Singapore originally. One was definitely an S which later came to Australia and is still here. The second I don't recall what model but it had already been sold out of Singapore. The third was definitely an SV. It was sold new to the Singapore Airport Authority and used for high speed testing on the runways of the then-new International Airport. It is interesting to speculate who convinced the government to buy such a car, particularly these days when runways are only tested to about 100kph. I tried very hard to see the car but it was locked away and was apparently in poor condition. I believe it also had all sorts to testing equipment screwed and pop rivetted to the bodywork and a flashing safety light on the roof. After leaving Singapore I was told it was put up for tender and sold for a very low price.... I think about $15,000 and is still in a private collection there. I don't think there is any doubt it actually existed but I am wondering if anyone can add more details or confirmation.
In the mid-80s the folks at Portman Lamborghini told me about its existence, but no more details unfortunately.
I'm not sure about the total number upgraded to S specs. However I think they should be considered worth less than the original P400's. The same goes for SV upgrades. You can never re-create an original SV. (although I still prefer sleeker lines of the P400 over the SV.. but that's a slightly biased opinion of course.. )
Indeed, not the first to go for that clean look, this is the ex-General Motors P400, pic taken 8 years ago. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes, though when it emerged from Gary's shop it had them again...mirrors, too! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Time for a new and more robust aluminum fuel tank. Is there a definitive (yes, I realize this may be a stretch) opinion on the appropriate black paint? Matte? Satin/Semi-gloss? Gloss? Thanks! Alex
Joe (et al) I think you should go one step beyond book and chapter. I think (if it were possible) that this would make a perfect video series. These cars are pretty much works of art inside and out -- I know that lots of people here would watch as the car was restored fully and correctly. Heck, we might even learn a thing or two... (All I ask is to be included in the production team!)
Got a chance to ride along in the ex-Sinatra Miura S - video below. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyLjfS3UdWM[/ame]
Unfortunately, it is impossible for any computer to do justice to the glorious sound of a Miura in a tunnel or underpass.
Don't miss the chance to ride along with Mr Wang! [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWd7Pv8ew5c&feature=player_embedded[/ame]
