She's beautiful, Onno. I know nothing about sailing, but am inspired to get into the hobby by boats like yours. Please keep the photos coming.

Thanks for the comments. The boat is being restored by a NW Seattle expert who works on and drives vintage unlimited hydroplanes. (the BIG ones, Thriftway, Slo-Motion, Bhardal etc) I should be a fun one, and go like stink!!!!

Those are some really big propellers. Look how small that guy looks next to them!

yup ... those arneson drives need to be big cos there's no rudder ...

and more importantly, they're the reason she gets to >50 knots ...

    :)

What do those flaps to the outside of the propellers do? I had presumed they functioned as the rudders. Are they stabilisers instead?

    All the best,
    Andrew.

actually, the props are capable of moving left/right & up/down. the vertical motion is called "trim". the sideways motion turns the boat.

the flaps you see are to bring the bow down as speed builds up, effectively reducing boat contact with the water, thus reducing drag.

that's when you "trim" the props to take her to the next level ... like fine tuning ...

for something that's 70 tons, 80 feet long, she will do a U-turn at max speed in inside 75 metres ... that's really incredible ...

fyi, when she's above 45 knots, only half the props are in the water ... that's how much "lift" she gets ...
