    Hey,

Prompted by the other thread. Would you welcome PW back as a talking head on NBC?

    Cheers,

First his pitlane "reporting" was the worst case of fluff balls. It was embarrassing to watch the drivers trying to avoid him. And if he caught one all he'd say is "Good luck <insert name here>".

Will Baxton actually has something to say when reporting from pitlane.

Second he had a major conflict of interest by being the USF1's spokes person AND Speed's reporter about the story at the same time. But ethical issues didn't plague him anyway and so he blatantly lied about the actual status of USF1 pretending all was well and on its way when he already knew it wasn't.

If you lie, you loose your credibility. And at the end of the day, that's really all you have as a journo.

PS: It'll be interesting to see how Lauda will manage getting a sqare peg through a round hole: He kept his TV reporter gig while being a big guy at MB. IMHO that is another conflict of interest which will put him on thin ice when talking about his own team.

Credibility and integrity now matter in F1?

Well said. He lied to the faces of American F1 fans right to the bitter end when he knew damn well that they weren't even CLOSE to getting that team going. Inexcusable and pathetic. I'm surprised at his nerve even coming around the F1 circus again. Drivers wouldn't give him the time of day before...can you imagine now?

It's Lauda, what do you expect? Of course he's not going to give up being able to blabber on camera, he likes the attention too much. Nevermind how unprofessional it looks to the MB team when he is taking over an important role there. Immediately shows a lack of focus and dedication to the job. Not surprised, can't wait for the inevitable gaffes next year.

I can imagine that the first interview he would do on NBC would be with Danica Patrick and her views of the state of the sport.

    Gosh this is gonna suck.

I'm a big Lauda fan but I have to agree. Bad judgement on his part to keep the reporter role.

That's my feelings too. He's been around a *long* time. May not be the best, but is in front of a few of the alternatives (Daly etc )

I'm not sure that's true - I honestly believe that while everyone else could see it he was in denial for a long time. Doesn't make it right, but does he deserve the vitriol aimed his way? He tried (at maybe the worst possible moment in time) and failed - It's happened before and will again. Time to move on maybe?

    Cheers,
    Ian
PS - I made the poll "public" for the first time. Everyone can see who you voted for......

Why'd you say that? I certainly don't know, but suspect NBC sports channels reach many more folk than Speed. Thats gotta be good, no?

I'm also still hopeful they'll have a BBC/Sky style crew at all the races - So much better than trying to do it from a TV studio in NC (or wherever it is).

    Give 'em a chance?......

    Cheers,
    Ian

Absolutely he does. IIRC, he was saying that USF1 would be on the grid at Bahrain as late as March of that year. I distinctly remember Varsha sitting there interviewing him, lapping it all up. Windosr knew damn well they had no shot. I think you're trying to make it seem like Windsor was just naive about the whole thing which I don't think was remotely true. He was supposedly a high ranking guy in the project and lied about it for months to excited American F1 fans, which was/is BS. Later it emerged that the whole thing was pretty much a farce from the start.

Had he come out and said "look guys, we have no money, the project isn't going to happen" people might have been more likely to forgive him. Even all the USF1 stuff aside, I didn't think he was worth a crap as a pit reporter anyway. Buxton does a much better job, IMO.

    Retroactive disclosure?
    Unfair!
    ;)

Pee Wee may have been lying to himself as much as to us but that's still a big fail for someone being paid to impart reliable information.

As a team principal it was his duty to spin. As a reporter his duty was to delve.
We all know which role he chose.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you may be correct. I know to have Speed you have to pony up to step two of cable channels package. Whereas i believe NBC sports is a notch below. Hell, CBS Sports is one package about Speed.

I can't check now, but believe the poll gives a big ol' warning that it's public prior to you voting. Wanna change your vote based on it being public? ;)

    +1

For sure, there was a big conflict of interest there. As others have said, I'd prefer Buxton if that's all they're gonna have. But Pee Wee isn't *that* bad compared to some alternatives. I guess be careful what you wish for......

    Cheers,
    Ian
