I loved the movie, and was reminded of it when a friend sent me this link. http://player.vimeo.com/video/48642618
Very cool. I was just watching about those on Ice pilots . During high fire season in LA they keep a couple of Canadian ones at Van Nuys on stand-by.
I did some certification work on this one a couple yrs ago. 20000 gal http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=k19a-PPrK24&feature=endscreen
Well, if you are going to talk about the movie you need to have the opening sequence with the correct airplane. PBY Catalina There's one parked 5 miles from my house in Arlington. Still flyable. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2nSRHbaEH0[/ame]
Better yet, this BIG ASS Martin Mars JRM-3 from Richmond B.C. (Coulson Air Tankers). What a machine. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEeNmSOEgQY&feature=related[/ame]
You and I used to see this Mars demonstrate multi-ton drops at the Abottsford Air Show in 1967, or 1968.
Only one of the Mars is to remain as a firefighter; the other has already been repainted in its original U.S. Navy colors and is supposed to be flown down the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola very soon, if it hasn't already happened.
