    starting thread as excuse to post new vid found on tubeface (?), but seriously, i've always been a fan of the cars ....old tech now of course, and i'm sure the ride and finish would be not to everyones tastes now, but when in school my '80 scirocco (bronze 5spd) was a flying gokart, loved it! :)

    I think someday cars like the Scirocco and the original GTI will be collectable. I would still love to find a Corrado some day that hasn't been beaten to death.

    Wonderful cars. Even people like my brother, who owned a silver mkII Scirocco, could sense that these cars were designed with a very different set of priorities in mind than the average car in that price range.

    Well said. Cars like these actually brought true driving enjoyment to the masses at an affordable price with above average reliability and with a tad more investment could be real sleepers.

    it's not a boast, as a teen you drive a little more in excess than now :eek: in my case, i would often race a school friend, who's parents had bought him an white '85 'stang 5.0 ....by that time i had done some DIY suspension mods on my '80 scirocco, including a 1.8L engine + GTi CIS swap (still same 5 spd short ratio) and no word of a lie, i could match him for acceleration (up to a certain speed) and out corner him easily .....hell of a go kart! :D

    I came so close to getting a Scirocco many times. Finally bought a brand new Corrado in April of '91, it was a leftover 1990 and I drove the hell out of it for 6 years. Lots of little issues but I loved that car. Definitely handled and drove better than anything else in its class.

    I had a 1978 Rabbit (can hardly remember it), then bought a new 1986 GTI, which was OK but not great. Then bought a new 1992 Corrado VR6, which I still have. I really like that car, only has about 85,000 miles on it, but it has been SO MUCH TROUBLE, mostly with the electrical system.

    Out in the garage I have a set of 14" Pirelli "P" wheels that I got for the GTI. Anyone want to offer me a ridiculous amount of money for them?

    the H2Os do certainly take some maintenance (ongoing) but i really loved that scirocco i have to say, even when the hidden rust was becoming an issue

    the corrado's were great cars, being essentially the next scirocco (in spirit if not name) but VW again introduced them when they were the last generation GTi platform, when the newer generation GTi platform came out (or shortly after) ...so weird how & why they did that??

    i'm really impressed by the current generations (newest and last generation) models of the GTi ....got a chance to drive a dual clutch turbo model, looked great, quick and smart handling IMO

    the new scirocco (glad they brought the name back) is based on the GTi, and at least (so far) they are keeping both congruous to each other in platform

    sadly they dont import that here!? because i think i need a R model scirocco in my life! :D

    There is a green one in Phoenix. Not sure how it's here but it showed up to Cars and Coffee and I saw it on the road.

    It's an ugly green color, sadly. I wish it were an R version! I think they would do very well if they were sold here.

    interesting, maybe some sort of grey market way?

    the only loop hole (article) i found was this ....how to get a R model scirocco into Canada, so long as you agree to pay $150,000 and upgraded to 550hp :D :D

    I saw a new Scirocco in Florence...maybe Siena, can't remember. It was the Mutts Nuts.

    I'm not 100%, but I think it was on manufacturer's plates (MT-____), but I also saw it in a neighborhood, so it's not stored at a dealership. There was a red one at Cars and Coffee once too. I never saw it in person, just in pictures.

    According to repeated commentary in evo, the hot hatch is dying out. (The fact that there's no talk of a Focus RS is just one of many factoids that validate this POV.)

    Interestingly, graphs in the magazine show that Europeans are moving to either the entry level cars of luxury marques - 1-series, A-1, etc. - or they're going econo/enviro small.

    I used to drive a silver 84 schi rock just like the one in the video. euro bumpers,lights and kit. slammed with bilsteins. One of the fastest cars on mulholland in the days. I wish I could find a picture of it. Also had a box with two 15's woofers in the trunk. When it used to be cool.;)

    of course most know (maybe some don't) that Ital founder and designer Giorgetto Giugiaro penned the first VW Rabbit/Golf, and subsequently the Mk1 Scirocco
    the folded shapes were new and modern for that time, and he was responsibble for many similar designs (think Lotus Esprit, BMW M1, Maserati, even DeLorean)
    The Scirocco was, and continues to be based on the Golf/GTi platform

    Me and my Mk. 6 running down an M3 last October at Carolina Motorsports Park. At this point, the car had APR Stage 1 and H&R Sport springs. Over the winter, I've added Brembo 13" front brakes, Carbonio cold air intake, and South Bend Stage 2 clutch. (Stock clutch slipped due to additional torque of the APR tune.) I can't wait to get her back on the track!
