Warning, not all the shuttle drivers bothered to learn the route before departing the expo center. Our bus 900, got lost in rust hour traffic. The bus in front of us arrived 45 minutes before us. As we exited the bus we noticed he was studying the map.

While you may, unfortunately, be correct, I don't think appearing to gloat about any problems is very nice..... Lets hope they get it right!

    Cheers,
    Ian

If it's bad, I will, because having a single 2 lane road as the only entrance for a 100k+ person even is flat out retarded. You don't exactly have to be an engineer to realize that.

As far as I know there is a single exit off the highway and a 2 lane to the track. Or am I wrong? (I hope I am).

Actually, I think that there are two exits off the highway and two 2-lanes to the track (1 north and 1 south) but that won't prevent jams.

Do what I used to do at Watkins Glen, which had similar road issues, in its GP days: go early and stay late.

+1 We used to stay in the campground at Silverstone on Sunday night. *Party* time!..... Met James Hunt in the mud there one year. ;)

Despite this years bad weather, Silverstone is *always* a success...... No govt money involved either....... It can be done.....

Traffic has been non existent so far. The biggest wait was to get on the downtown shuttle. Lines for alcohol, food, and merchandise are also ridiculously long and slow.

So far I'm incredibly impressed, it looks like this bridge in front of the observation deck was the only thing they didn't finish. Restrooms are plentiful, but the food and beverages need some work.

Cool. Hopefully they don't make the mistake Indy made in year one; The F&B folks were used to/expected the "typical" US fan - Show up at some point, buy beer, rinse & repeat.

F1 fans, they were surprised to learn, want their F&B and to be in their seat plenty ahead of the "five & out"......

    "Belly flask" anyone? ;)

Again, "so far so good" it seems. Good luck to all!

    Please keep the pix coming.
    Cheers,
    Ian

Lots of food venders complaining of food and supplies not being delivered so some selections were limited. About half the venders not able to do credit/debit transactions. One coffee spot. The landscaping is yet to be completed.

On the up side, quick and easy to get in once you finish the half mile treck from the drop pff area. The buses can take the north exit and release their captives on the otherwise on the track. From turn 12 you can see 10+ other turns. Every thing is new and clean.

More to come later. We were just told they close the gates at 5. It 4:45 and the Porsches are still racing. .

There are 3 entrances/exits on 3 different roads. The 2 lane road was striped into 4 lanes close to the track (using the shoulders) and they are using 3 lanes for the primary direction and 1 for the opposite. Congestion was not as bad as I expected, but it's only Friday. Inside there was definitely some crowding issues.

Hopefully it's not a repeat of Kentucky's debut

That's what I said I was worried about in another thread a week or so ago.

Hopefully they have it figured out, it couldn't be much worse than that debacle.

It was shortly after they said the gates close at 5, that I remembered there was a concert tonight. Not sure that memo got distributed around. The result was thousands of fans converging to the buses at once. Forty five minutes later we were on the buses, and one missed exit we were once again taking the long way. Not to rush though, all traffic leaving the expo was being funneled to one exit and cars where backed up from one end to the other. We took the road less traveled and was out in a matter of minutes.

Hopefully the track will spend the night going over logistical mistakes before tomorrow.

Wasn't this a demand from local officials to ensure few would drive thier own cars to the race , pretty much a forced "Greenie Weenie" plan?

Since 7:30am I've been riding the Metro to downtown & out to the track. Got to the track about 9:30am to get an idea if your footing most of it. Track is fantastic but the place needs more food venders the lines for the merchandising is horribly disorganized, expect a 30 to 45 wait just for one $10 burger. Just got back to my cousins. My iPhone 5 cord is broken so I'm SOL as for charging it. Photos & more will be added to this thread when I get back to the Panther City.
