I'm looking for some opinions from those who've worked on their own F355s. I have a few opportunities lined up to purchase a vehicle with an unknown history. I have no issue with doing any repairs (I build and tune motors on the side, have decent fabrication and welding skills).

My past experience with Imports are:

    - Easy to find parts, even for 90's vehicles.
    - Forums with experience on the vehicles (user DIY articles, issues and resolutions, etc)
    - Good relationship with dealerships (in the US) with discounted parts, usually parts are still in stock and ship overnight.
    - Good ebay/aftermarket support for any hard to find parts
    - Access to those odd ball parts (screws, bolts, clamps, belts, gaskets)
    - Shop manuals with good instruction (torque values, servicing, rebuilding)

How are these resources for the f355? The vehicle I am looking at will most likely require a complete engine rebuild, which I can tackle, but without parts and manuals, this may be difficult.

Parts are easy to find. Ricambi sells everything you'll need. There is plenty of help on this site and most problems you will experience have been well described.the shop manuals are available on line but not very good. No dealer discounts on parts any you will be shocked at parts prices compared to other cars. Some parts are available outside of the dealer or Ferrari supply chain for less but the parts unique to any Ferrari can be 10 times the cost of a similar part on any other car. I recommend you go to Ricambi Web site and browse the 355 parts prices.
I wish you luck with your Ferrari purchase and hope you will post pictures when you start your rebuild. Fchat is a great resource and most here are happy to help out.

    Here is a start: http://www.ferraridatabase.com/The_Downloads/Downloads.htm

Ricambi is a sponsor here. Daniel is a regular contributor here and great guy. His company is top notch for parts & support.

T Rrutands and FerrParts are less professional but may be on option as well.

I would suggest you poke around and find a local shop that has some experience with these cars. You may have the knowledge, but they can help with some of the nuances.

Beyond that, these are just cars and repairs can be done at home as many of us do. The only difference is mistakes cost way more to correct than other cars. :)

    Best of luck!

I did the same thing not even a year ago and with the help of this forum everything went smoothly.

The only problem is that now I'm addicted to this damn place (fchat) I'm on here multiple times every day.

Does this mean I am going to turn out like Blampee?

Thanks everyone for the responses. I wasn't sure if anyone worked on their own Ferraris (I'm not just talking oil changes), but it seems this spot encompasses quite a few!

Thanks for the links, I've looked through them and so far seem to have found what I was looking for.
