Alonso is stating he will outscore Vettel in this race
From Autosport : Fernando Alonso is convinced he will reduce the gap to Sebastian Vettel in the championship in Sunday's United States Grand Prix despite starting seven places behind the German.

Unless he's sabotaging Vettel's car, Phil is instructed to crash into Vettel, or Bernie assured him of a black hand in the results, that's a pretty cocky statement when Vettel is starting from pole, seven places ahead, and on a substantially quicker car than him. Typical Alonso arrogance, so not surprised.

His only chance to better Vettel is a disaster. And out of the 2 possible disasters, he's more likely to be involved in a crash due to his starting position. And as far as mechanical breakdown, it depends on how used each other's engines and transmissions are, which I have no idea.

"As I said, for whatever reason, I have the strange feeling that tomorrow we will reduce the gap."

That's what he said. He's just trying to remain optimistic from the sounds of it.

I hope so too, but one thing is being optimistic, and another arrogant. You don't assure of a win with the odds stacked against you. Even Vettel would have sounded arrogant with that statement, but much less so than Alonso. Instead, he was humble when asked about that in the interview.

I'm surprised you guys didn't notice that Massa's gearbox was acting up just at the end of his last lap in Q3. Why, it seemed problematic enough that I wouldn't be surprised if it might require a gearbox change tonight.

Oh darn, you mean that might drop Massa back 5 places, behind Alonso?
Darn again, you mean that might bump Alonso up to the clean side of the grid for 7th?

What a shame about that gearbox problem for Massa.

    ;) :p

Makes it harder to pass during the race. Especially with how slick the surface still is offline. Not so much of a problem when you're starting on pole and running away though. ;)

    Missed the qualifying last night.

What happen to Alonso? Anyone? Even Schumacher seems to have set a good time.

Remember Fernando is a Samurai warrior.
Of course he believes he will give all to win.
So Phil is the Kamikaze?? He has less pressure of course and will act to support his #1.
I often say to the wife, what would the old man have done??
He would have had Alonso and Fred in his team by now. He had no problems pitting driver versus driver with the constructors championship the most important goal.

    Not to worry.
Won't be the first USGP with only five finishers.

Alonso better have a good start and hope that Maldonado and grosjean moonwalk. Would be sad to see the championship end by one retiring by something out of his hands...
