I'm looking to buy a new iMac and MacBook Air but I have a question. Both of these are without a cd drive, so how do I load software for printers or other things without a cd drive? Thanks
Online downloads. You can get any software you need in the Mac App Store. Optical drives are going the way of the VHS. Apple removed them from new computers on purpose. It'd be like buying a new car with a cassette deck.
And if there is something you absolutely need that is on CD/DVD you can buy a USB one for about $20 at Best Buy.
Also, if you're getting a new iMac be sure you get the brand new super thin one that was just released.... I think it's another month or two before they show up in stores.
Also, when i bought my HP printer, i did not have to install anything. I simply plugged it into my macbook pro, and started printing. Im not sure if its always like that, but it was easy for me. You will LOVE your new mac!
I love my Mac as well.... but to be fair, Windows does that too. They give you the disk as a back-up if your computer is ancient and doesn't have pre-installed drivers (most any computer from the last 5 years or so will have them).
Just bought a new 13" PB with retina display and SSD. To me all the benefits of the Macbook Air with the latest features for just a few extra $$. I bought the external drive - cost $80 as a safety net, used it to reload Office 2011, now in the closet. As other have stated, everything can be download. BTW, cheap storage is a 64GB SD card if you want to play movies or not clog your drive up with lots of junk. MB
