Air Temp Sensor???

Hey guys,

My 99 SV threw a code for the intake air temp sensor. I switched the right and left sensors, and the code switched sides. I think I was told a while back that this particular sensor is rare and expensive ($300). Seems strange cause its such a simple sensor?

Anyway I noticed this one on eBay, that says is for a 98 Diablo. Is the 98 air temp sensor the same as the 99?

Anyone know anything about it? The store selling it knew nothing, and even when I called the manufacturer they said they actually buy this one and only know it fits some Kias?

This air temp sensor, Lamborghini p/n 7M919529, is the same for both 98 and 99 SV as far as I can see.

 

Not 100% certain but I think the same part is used on all Diablos and many Murci's.

Three hundred dollars does not sound all that expensive, given todays times and market.

And all this is is a tiny variable resistance temp sensor, tiny in size, and probably on every other car......

 

In a generic sense that's true but getting one with the correct profile would take a bunch of research.

Why not just buy the one on eBay and compare resistance vs the other you have?

 

Maybe L owners have a different attitude than F owners.

You will need to know the full R vs. T curve i.e. the resistance cold, the resistance hot and then is the change linear, logarithmic etc.

The Ebay ad says it fits 98SV and VT.
So why do you need to know the full R vs. T curve?
98 SV has same OEM p/n as 99SV.

There is tons of stuff on ebay and other misc. web sites that show cross reference listing to Lamborghini parts that simply are not. Not passing judgment on this part but it would be a least caveat emptor.

I don’t have specific Diablo parts compatibility knowledge, but:

The big manufacturers often put their name and part number on the sensors, so I would inspect one of the Manifold Air Temperature (MAT) sensors for inscriptions and if there Google it to find a direct replacement, circumventing the Lamborghini mark-up.

Alternatively, just buy one with the correct connector and compare the resistance to that of the remaining good MAT sensor, for example at just 2 temperatures.

The typical MAT (and coolant) sensors are Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) thermistor type sensors with resistance of about 3300 ohms @ 20C and 350 ohms @ 80C.

The MAT sensors are there to provide small adjustments in fuel delivery and possibly also timing.

I went ahead and ordered one....figured for $20 it'll be a good experiment. I'll do as you say and report back.....
