As for the "trial": I would show these jurors just the stats as everything else is a long list of explanations and excuses. Cars break for various reasons, not just because they were faulty to begin with. Even Brawn made a comment that maybe some technical problems were driver related.

Anyway, this very discussion is the reason why I'm looking forward to next year: We won't be talking about MS and coulda/woulda/shouldas anymore and (hopefully) focus more on what really matters: Vettel vs Alonso

The difference is I would present all the facts, not cherry pick certain numbers. Regarding reliability, I cannot help but look at Red Bull and their alternator issues. So Renault have designed a specific alternator because drivers are breaking them? I think not. Car reliability is a team issue, not a driver issue. 1% of the time it may be able to be argued that a driver taking too much curb or bumping a wall may have ruined an electrical or hydraulic part but such instances are specific responses to mistakes or carelessess a driver may have taken. I saw none of that from Michael this year when his car broke.


Next year just won't be as interesting. I guarantee view ratings will be down

What do y'all think the various broadcasters will do re: MS's 2nd retirement?

I mean we already had the endless retrospectives and interviews recalling all his moments, good and bad, the first time around.

I'm expecting any mention to be incidental and momentary.

 

When he announced his retirement on the Sunday of Monza 6 years ago, I booked to fly to Brazil on the Monday to watch his last race for Ferrari. My wife and I got the last two seats in a race package tour! That was the hype last time round. I am glad I did that because to me that was the proper end to his career, and I will always remember where I was when he drove off the track into the pits after the race (opposite our seats) - his last time on a track in F1, or so we thought.

I dont mind that he returned for Mercedes but I couldnt support him in the same life-and-death way I used to support him when he drove for the Scuderia. And I am very dissappointed for him that he didnt getting a few more wins under his belt.

But none the less - I hope he has a good race on Sunday and wouldnt it be great if we could see him on the podium one last time?

It has been a good run for him and I will miss him but I am also happy with his decision.

 

I think one of my if not the favorite things about Michael is that he is a normal approachable and humble guy who always gives back as much as he's physically able with his time. How many other F1 drivers ever have done this besides maybe Senna, although I don't believe even Senna gave as much of his personal time and charity as Michael has. Take away Michael and his 7 titles and infinite number of records and you still have a person who is just a wonderful human being. Bravo Michael

Well, I'm pretty sure it will be a good deal more quiet in the F1 forum. Much less pre-season rarah and live reporting about what Brawn had for breakfast (if you catch my drift).

I've seen it after 2006 how just here on FChat some people quit posting. I expect a similar thing happening now as well.

Whatever they plan on doing, I know one driver who won't have time to attend because he had to take a <rhimes with pit>.
