Thinking about getting a 55" hd tv this black Friday. Which brand reigns supreme? Who has best prices? Essential features? Tia Ed
MINE IS PLASMA... GREAT PICTURE BUT EXPENSIVE AND HEAVY, REALLY HEAVY. TODAY I WOULD GO FOR LED, WITH ALL THE WEB STUFF AND NO 3D... I think they stop making the 3D already, didn't they ?
Bought the Samsung 55" LED in June and it has been great ! Light, and puts out less heat than older tv's.
I was looking to replace my seven year old 40" Sony LCD and after researching till I wanted to poke my eyes out I purchased a 60" Panasonic Plasma (TC-P60GT50) and couldn't be happier! The only TV that came close in terms of picture quality was Samsung's 60" LED but I was warned at two different specialty audio stores that carried Samsung (and Panasonic) that they have a higher than average return rate due to defects.
I know it's after black Friday and all, but if you aren't dead set on buying anything soon, you may want to wait for organic LED (OLED) TVs in decent sizes (40"+). Supposedly provides truer colors with natural pigments. Otherwise, I'd recommend LED. The old Kuro plamsa TVs were good, but they don't make them anymore. Was one of the most expensive TVs on the market and people weren't willing to pay for it even though it had a great picture. Some people still compare current TVs to them.
vizios are the best affordable brand and the closest thing to an american brand I know of-based in cali with support in cali. That said not the best at least from reviews and back when I sold them the best were/are sony, samsung and a recent survey says pioneer buyers were quite happy. I've generally been a sony guy myself but could see going samsung. A friend recently bought an emerson which for the money is quite nice also so what'd you get? I'd go LED myself gotta consider the energy usage also
Plasma still provides the best picture, and certainly best price point. Panasonic's line looks just as good as the old Kuro's. It's my first brand choice on plasma. Samsung next, and LG third. The rest I wouldn't even consider.
For whatever reason, I didn't find out about 1080p being replaced soon by 4K and 8K monitors until today. The "ultra high definition" monitors are multiple times higher resolution the 1080p. Whereas 1080p is 2 mega pixels (1920x1080), 4k is 8.3MP (3840x2160) and 8k is 33.2MP (7680x4320)!!! Some of the current 4K monitors are in the 80" range so it's not like they just attached a bunch of smaller 1080p monitors in a 2x2 fashion, haha. I think Sony and LG are the only two on the market and very expensive ($20k+). That would be nice to have. Especially when reviewing some DSLR photos that are pushing the pixel count back 20MP nowadays. Any here I thought only radiologists had the monitors over 2MP with their 5MP+ Barco screens...
Even if you get 4K etc, etc.... doesn't it all depend on the signal you get coming in to your home. What if you live in an old neighborhood where the line aren't the most up to date?
There isn't any 4K tv service as of right now... the only thing you'd be able to watch in 4K would be movies (and there aren't that many commercially available yet in that format)
I just got a Sharp 3D and am surprised how good the 3D is. If you want to go bigger than 60" I don't think you have plasma as an option.
