The stewards see *everything*. From many angles. I've been in Charlie's den (at Spa & Silverstone) and the # of cameras (coupled with DVR's) is astounding. Given the situation (title on the line), there is no doubt that Ferrari would have protested if they thought they had a case. Apparently, they asked Charlie about it, he looked at it and told 'em there was no case to answer. They moved on - Maybe it's time for us to as well? The BBC/Sky talking heads need to fill their time somehow. But they don't have Charlie's views. Cheers, Ian
If I may contribute a picture from the Hockenheim equivalent (excuse the bad cellphone quality).... +1 It's absolutely no question the slippery flag was out, mentioned countless times by the commentators on TV here (BEFORE the incident). This is really beating a dead horse... let's move on to 2013 and hope we see an equally exciting championship then. Image Unavailable, Please Login
So because you refuse to acknowledge the stewards i am being argumentative? I can see i am wasting my time here, have fun with your theory.
Not to be pointing any fingers but here and on other threads some folks are having a bit of separation anxiety when it comes to the 2012 season.
This is a non story, it wasn't a yellow flag. Its just a case of none of the broadcasters have a clue as to what the lights actually meant.
Exactly! I made the same mistake as Brundle when I saw the footage as I thought he'd passed under yellows. He didn't. A yellow flashing sign indicates yellow flags. What we saw was a a yellow/orange slippery surface 'flag'. Brundle made a mistake which is unfortunate and unlike him. He was quick to correct his mistake via Twitter after the race.
FACTS: Ferrari questioned the move Vettel made to Charlie. Charlie looks at said move in his room with many views. Charlie declares move legal because there wasn't a yellow. Ferrari moves on, it's now tuesday after the race and still no crying from them. FYI, Ferrari cries about just about anything they can do, especially in a case like this. They haven't. Arm chair experts still can't fathom a boy like Vettel has beaten their God and are still flogging a dead horse. Entertainment value has gone down a lot on the subject.
Vettel won the championship fair and square, so this is a futile exercise. Then again, I STILL fight with a friend that Prost should have been the 1990 champion after Senna deliberately hit him in Suzuka and admitted it in 1991 after winning the championship again in Suzuza. (Now lets see how long it takes for someone here to say: Remember that Prost did the same to Senna in Suzuka in 1989!!!)
I'm pretty sure the FIA decided that incident in 2003 was Grosjean's fault. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ih9Zi6Wo9nI[/ame] All the best, Andrew.
this is very interesting [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFER0esusF0[/ame] its around the 10:00 mark
Whoa! Best argument to subscribe to Bernie's F1 feed. Also goes to show that Lady Luck was 110% on Vettel's side in that race: Not only did his car survive an "unsurvivable" collision right after the start, the marshalls were sound asleep. I don't know how this is handled but they should have 2+2 guys watching the in-car camera for both title contenders all the time and bring up infractions such as these to race control immediately.
Ha! How long do you think this video will last on youtube? Clearly an illegal pass. And he should have been penalized for it. This may have made all the difference in the world and Alonso probably would have been a world champion this year. Having said that and as much as I wanted the scuderia to take the WDC, I think it is water under the bridge now and they should not mess with the championship after the fact. Senna became champion when he should have been disqualified from the whole season, Lewis became champion when his team should have been excluded from racing that year and now Seb became champion under questionable conditions. I guess **** happens even in the almighty F1 world. It's not the first time and I assume it won't be the last.
Unlikely. +1 McLaren threw the last two races in 2007 to avoid being excluded from the 2008 season. So no, Lewis' title run was legit, he already paid the price for it by losing the 2007 title.
http://www.skysports.com/video/inline/0,26691,12602_8282348,00.html McNish and SkySports take on it. It was announced on the broadcast that Ferrari "made Charlie aware of the pass that occured on lap 8" and the FIA reviewed the pass on lap 16 and found it was OK. Of course it was. They looked at the wrong pass. Right or wrong, the event is over and the Championship decided. Even if they did acknowledge an error it at this point, they will not overturn the championship.....besides, the FIA never admits they wer wrong about anything.
So a 20 second penalty would move him from 6th to 8th resulting in a 4 point loss. Alonso - 278 Vettel - 277 I think they should protest...rules are rules. It won't happen. Vettel is worthy of the championship anyway.
First we don't know if they threw the championship for a fact. It is just one popular theory (excuse for some) Second the penalty by the book would be two years out of the championship, which would be both '07 AND '08. But like I said, just like other occasions like this - Maradona winning the UEFAWC for Argentina, Senna's Title etc., these are over. They got away with it and more power to them. I would much rather think of Vettel as a deserving champion that just got lucky a little and of Alonso of a great driver that gave everything he got and came just a little short at an honorable second. Than look at Alonso as champion decided in an office and at Vettel as a cheater who got caught.
