I have no issue at all with Ferrari's statement - I do raise objection to those who suggest it was a Ferrari innovation. To innovate you must do something first and they didn't in this case - beaten to market by two other manufacturers. >8^) ER
Saying that Ferrari isn't innovative is simply absurd. It might be difficult to point out specific groundbreaking technologies that comes from Ferrari but if one looks at the whole package of a modern Ferrari it becomes evident that they employ a lot of cutting edge technologies. They might not be the first to employ a certain technology but they make them work a whole better than most of their competitors by tweaking and evolving them. Ferrari is one of the frontrunners of sportscar-technology and has time and time again turned the tables around for what a production sportscar can be and how it is perceived in the general public. In many ways Ferrari define the segment and is the benchmark for most high-end sportscars. What it really boils down to is how big a word-Nazi you are. And if by innovative, you mean first then you might have some trouble finding that in this case. However if you believe that you can also be innovative with existing technologies then it won't be difficult to back up. A specific innovative technology that Ferrari put on a road-going production model before anybody else? On top of my head... how about the electrochromic glass roof on the 575 Superamerica?
Well, everybody knew (including Toyota themselves) that they had near zero chances of winning Le Mans. Their initial plan was to race in 2013; they even had to skip Spa because they crashed their only car when testing. I suppose that they only debuted this year because Peugeot unexpectedly quit so now ACO owes them a favour. They won a few events, yes, but that was later and in short races. They are doing better than expected though, and I bet that Le Mans is going to be interesting next year.
How about more renders and less HATERS. Cant wait til' F70 wastes the P1 in every way possible to shut some of these guys up.
exactly. I can live with that, but again they are followers and maybe they get the concept right. FerrariTTv12, And if the F70 wastes the P1 what point does that prove when they won't meet in a sanctioned racing event. Street and magazine racing is pointless, hence my view of super cars. But yes I enjoy watching them be developed, but I pray for the day when these cars will grow a pair and compete. Pete
Yes, of course he is. And so are you. Ferrari have won Le Mans several times since 1965. No one is saying the win needs to be overall. Only you. And implying that a GT win is less than an LMP win is very, very disrespectful to anyone competing in the GT class. They are NOT even competing eachother.
Today I´d say that "sanctioned events" are meaningless regarding the perfomance of a road car. Do you honestly think that a BMW Z4 is faster than a Porsche 911? Because that may happen with GT3 regulations.
That would be a good day and all could be made legal to compete in the sanctioned racing events that allow FIA EXP2 Hybrid which as a start will include the 24 Hours of Nurburgring, The 24 Hours of Spa, and both a Middle Eastern 24 and an Asian 24. Under the 2013 rules for this series a P1, 918, or F70 will basically have to run at a GT3 level of petrol engine HP, KERS up to 50 KW and minimum weight of 2950.
Interesting to consider the possibilities of the F-70 entering one of these races. But have any of the Ferrari Supercars of the last twenty years, the F-50 or Enzo, been driven in anger at major races?
Nope. Actually, no ones enters "supercars" in races anymore. The last one was the Maserati MC12. There were a few Paganis and Lamborghinis too but were not very succesful. I suppose that from a marketing POV it doesn´t make sense, and therefore the regulations are not made for them.
You say they are followers. I say they are leaders. They are innovative in the sense they use so many different technologies in one package. They are ahead of the times when you compare them to competitors such as Aston Martin, Porsche and Lamborghini. And there is no doubt that even McLaren are following a lot of what Ferrari is doing.
And how did the MC12 fare? It won everything notwithstanding constant regulation changes to make it less competitive - and it did it for years.... It was also basically an Enzo reviewed by Ascanelli.... What is a real shame is that Jim has gone from being an admired Ferrari expert and aficionado to a Monday morning quarterback. The P1 will no more be eligible for a race series than the F70 because the regulations don't allow for it. Should that stop manufacturers from creating new dreams? If so, then we live the end of the road for those of us who are passionate about cars and in particular Ferrari. Jim, maybe you should have looked at N Technology's not so glorious recent past (575 GTC, for eg) before having them spend your hard earned money.... What Michelotto has produced in the 458 is extraordinary. The competition needs to watch out again next year. The GT class is racing at its best. A Toyota vs an Audi in a bowl of diesel fumes leaves me simply coughing
I wish those boys at maranello put some light in the factory and show us what are dreams made of....to shout everybody's mouths.....
But the times and the rules have changed a lot since the days of the MC12. Re: N-Technologies, I think that's not fair, they have done very decent cars too, their Alfa Romeos of touring cars won everything and even that 575 ended up being better than Prodrive's 550 (although too late); and I bet that they're cheaper than Michelotto ;-)
Regarding the whole discussion about seeing Ferrari as innovative or not. We know the F70's main rivals, McLaren P1 and Porsche 918, are also coming with a KERS-like system. Ferrari might not be first but the concept is the same for all them. Also, I'm quite confident that we can rule out that they have learned anything from each other's solutions. Honestly, which one of them do you think will come up with the best solution? I'd put my money on Ferrari.
Even if Ferrari comes up with the best solution in the F-70, it will be all for nothing if owners don't race the cars.
What part of The McLaren P1, The Porsche 918, and the Ferrari F70 ARE ALL ELIGIBLE to compete in the 2013 FIA Alternate Energy Championship that WE WON this year are you unable to understand?
True and that's why, as the Italian Press recently reported and EVO is doing an article on is why we recently publicly challenged Porsche, McLaren and Ferrari to race their latest supercars against us in the FIA Alternate Energy Championship. I agree that it would be great to see the latest Supercars from these manufactures race in anger.
I think the F70 is going to be a triumph and that the McLaren P1 will be a commercial flop just as the MP12 is becoming one. The P1 is just to derivative of the much cheaper MP12
I disagree. Whatever or not it is going to race in some kind of a championship does not make it any less of a potentially great piece of machinery. It seems to me that you have totally missed the point about modern supercars.
