Technically 3 are going on to NBC, isn't Buxton going to NBC too?

 

I was counting in studio staff.

I was under the impression they see it a few seconds before we do. It is rare but I have heard them call something at exactly the moment it appears on the broadcast. That would seem iImpossible if they didn't see it earlier. That said, they probably have a lot more distracting them than we do. Sometimes having multiple feeds and information coming at you simultaneously and with a director in your ear can make it worse. Varsha is a smart guy who knows alot about the sport. It just doesn't come across easily during the broadcast. Someone said earlier that he has the harder job of the three and I tend to agree.

 

Agreed, but Leigh Diffey is even worse. A new voice he isn't.

That's not it at all.

Hobbs and Matchett both commute to work (to the SPEED studios). Varsha lives there. Because Varsha has other ongoing commitments to SPEED, he can't commute to the NBC studios. It makes no difference to Hobbs and Matchett.

It was simply a matter of logistics.

 

NBCU...Comcast....It would be impossible to set expectations too low.

 

You think SPEED would let Varsha moonlight?

Think NBC would want a competitor's man?

 

I think yes on both counts. Note that the second question is already answered. Leigh Diffey works for SPEED.

I do agree, broadcasting to an American audience without having one 'American' voice is a shameful omission. Try as I might, I can't think of anyone who would be better than BV. Cheever, no. Sullivan, ..maybe. Andrettis, nope. Scott Spe....ah, no.

If he was available, could there be anyone better than Robert Kubica as the man on the scene. He'd provide instant cred for the NBC at the races and I'd bet he'd have incomparable access to team personnel and drivers.

 

Curious; Is that a real "issue"? Given my history and "accent" (), it certainly doesn't bother me, but do you think it will turn off US fans?

It's all down to Bernie (FOM), nothing to do with the FIA. However, seems that many other markets are prepared to pay the ferry man, why not the biggest of them all? This is actually my biggest disappointment with NBC - I was really hoping they may try & do it right (ala BBC, Sky, the Germans, Italians et al). Seems they don't want to spend the money.

Interesting idea - Kinda like it. Doesn't address the desire for a "native" of course!

However, seems he's kicking ass in his rally car - Read recently WRC may be his next stop. Wish him well anyway.

There is a delay in the broadcast - I believe a govt rule on live broadcasts to avoid wardrobe malfunctions and the like - Although it obviously didn't work during the interviews in Austin!

However, I'm pretty sure they just receive the live feed and "overlay" their commentary in real time. I agree they seem awfully "fast" on occasion - But with the live timing app running I can do that too - Many times I'll see a "purple" time just ahead of BV announcing it for example.

Can't find the BBC lineup thread, so figured what the hell, put it here;

Suzi Perry is taking over from Jake Humphreys for the BBC. A quick Google says she's pretty hot......

Shame NBC don't just license the BBC coverage.
