When people say "it's not about the money" you can be certain about ONE thing: It's about the money.

It's ridiculous to maintain that money is not a consideration when you are evaluating these cars. And the incremental cost of owning one versus the other is a function of your financial situation.

So if you won the 500 million dollar Powerball you would choose the 360 over the 458??? Bull.

Gotta love this kind of perspective. Money and value disconnected just because you can. Those guys burn through cash like no ones business - high rollers trying to make it all about money and are usually left with some magic beans and very poor choices. Some of the cheapest people I know will b**ch about a $3.00 item and then cut a check for $1,000,000.00 because they see the value and pounce on it - but dont mistake that for it "being all about the money". Its all about the value.

Whats rediculous is not tying the two together...just because you can. There is a saying about that.

You're too sensitive about this issue.

Step back and take a deep breath.

People buy what they can comfortably afford and those who can't rationalize their decision.

Please dont be condesending. Like you, Im intitled to my opionion.

This new statement is liveable and tame compared to your previous being 'all about the money'. If it was approached like this, I personally would agree with you. That said, to suggest that someone doesnt buy the newest shiney object is a matter of their wallet size in many cases is simply untrue, and to some a bit of a tacky dig (the bigger man having the bigger wallet so to speak).

Your statement is true in a very rough sense. It is not true a lot of the times though. Some people can afford a better model than what they bought. They can even afford it comfortably, but they have a problem seeing the "value" in the purchase. You may be correct that almost no one who wins a $500 million lottery will pick a 360 over a 458. But if one was on a "limited" financial situation, like $300K, $400...or even 1 or 2 million, they may not see the value in spending it on a car rather than investing the remainder of the money, or buying some real estate instead of "blowing" it on a car!
I'm sure a great deal of people on this board feel the same way, and even though we all love cars, not everyone is willing to spend the same percentage of their money, or net worth on a car. All that said, if I actally wasted my money on playing the lotto (lotto is for people that are bad at math) and I got lucky and was the 1 out of 175,000,000 to win the $500 million, my first purchase the next day would be a 458! LOL

It would be the next day plus 6 months before you got a "slot" and another 6 months before you took delivery. Ferrari doesn't seem to budge no matter how rich you are.

All good points above about value, btw...

It's not all about the money. I can comfortably sell my 360 tomorrow and buy a 430. Actually, if I felt real pissed after coming home from a brutal work day I might be even crazy enough to go and buy a 458, I'd have the money. The point here is value and I think that's what the OP was all about. To me the 360 is hands down the better VALUE than the 430-and I'm not confused that the 430 is a "better" car all around (and I'd still take the 360 looks).
If I won 500 mil tomorrow hell yeah I'd buy a 458-then again I'd also buy a 348 which is a **** car-cause it was a childhood favorite and has a lot of sentimental meaning to me (of course I'd spruce the sucker up and make it top notch)

I agree with this. The F12 is really interesting and exciting to me but not enough for me to jump to it even though I can afford it.

Honestly, I'm looking at a 512 Boxer and they go for about $110K, not the $360K of the F12.

You buy and drive what you like AND can afford.

430 is faster and looks better and is newer... Just accept it and one day if you are fortunate enough buy one or don't but don't try to say its not better than its predecessor that's just being pigheaded and by saying " that's just my opinion" is a cop out. How can I not say the 458 is not a better car than the 430 of course it is. And that is what the op said I his original post ... He said "360 way better than 430" how is it better ... Cheaper definatly!!! Better show me how!!!!

I know people who has bought two brand new Ferraris of the same model within a year at msrp. Sometimes seven Ferraris within five years. To the really wealthy VIPs, what list..?

This is such an interesting thread. I never knew there was so much animosity between 360 and F430 owners.

    "Can't we all get along?"

My 2 cents. I left Ferrari at the 348 stage for reasons I will not go into here. The 355 to me was a warmed over 348 with a valve train that scared the hell out of me. (I guessed right on that one). Pass.

The 360 perked my interest but the maintenance costs scared me off. The styling to me was very "Dino-like" (good) but also a little too McLaren F-1 like. The 360's F1 box left me flat and the manual seemed to me to be the typical balky affair. Close but no cigar but on the right track. I loved the spider top.

The F430 spider put me back in the game. An all new engine with chains instead of belts, very fast f-1 gearbox, e-diff, more aggressive styling, and various other improvements.

The F430 spider was the best car I had ever owned.

It simply stands to reason that a car that is a refinement of an already excellent car would be better.

If this gets more heated, we might have to vote on a succession and give the F430$ our own forum :)

I always felt the 360 sounded a bit better than the 430 and more closely mimicked the F1 car...especially with the right exhaust set-up. The sound is important to me and one of the main reasons I purchased it!

Ever notice that the ones who win big in the lottery usually die of rectal cancer within a couple of years.

I dunno, if I woud buy a 458 - let someone else take the depreciation hit. The 458 is nice, but not as ground breaking as the 360 was. Lets see how many 458s Modena turns out.

Ummmm... no. The 458 is a clean sheet design like the 360 was. It is a game changer. How does faster than the Enzo (which was a 12 cylinder and all CF) in car you can use as a daily driver sound to you? Not special enough?

As to depreciation, 2010 458's have lost about as much in value in actual $$$ amount as 360's have since 2010. Not percentage --- actual dollars.

As to how many they turn out, they are sending more to other markets now than they did with 360's in 2001 to 2005. They may make as many, but fewer are coming to the states in proportion to the overall production. It's not how many they make, it's how many are available in each market.

Given they have the lower priced California (which is still selling well), there's less need for the FNA to get all it's cash only from the 458 like they had to with the 360 and F430. They now have 2 cars and total US sales are up because of it while waiting lists for 458's are still 12 to 18 months. That keeps resale values higher, which is their plan.'

Higher resale values keeps long term customers coming back, keeps leasing rates low, and helps dealers who make more money for each resale. High resale values are never bad in the auto industry ever. Ask Toyota and Mercedes.

I'll show you how worthless this thread has become. We're now arguing that the 360 is better than the 458. What's next? The 360 is better than the 250 GTO? :)
