Agree with the above on Kimi's 2005 performance. Of Kimi's "uncompromised" races, he had 7 wins (matching Alonso's tally); three 2nd places; and two third places. The remaining 5 races (not counting the Indy debacle) were "compromised":
Australia: clutch failure on grid relegated him to start from pit lane. Finished P10.
    Malaysia: puncture. Finished P11.
San Marino: Pole position. Leading race when retired due to driveshaft failure.
Nurburgring: Leading on last lap when retired from suspension failure (see dramatic video!).
Italy: Pole position. Gearbox change leads to 10 spot grid penalty. Finished P4.
Alonso had a great championshiop 2005 season, but for sure Kimi did not lose the championship for lack of pace or unforced errors.

You could also say the Nurburgring was his fault since he flatspotted that tire that eventually let go. Bottom line is, there were races where both he and Alonso finished and Alonso was quicker, in contrast to what furoni claims. Furthermore, Alonso was never "blown away" by Raikkonen. Usually if Kimi won, FA was right there behind him so his lead never got eaten into...

    Different races.

    (This'll be good)

So if Ferrari always designates a #1 driver, then ...

... how do you explain that Massa was the #1 driver in 2008?

He wasn't. When you are getting paid less than half the salary of your teammate you are not number one. He was however outperforming his teammate starting in 2008 so his team would support his efforts and eventually sack his teammate.

I would like to see Massa stay, and Alonso go. Who to replace Alonso, might not be an easy decision. I really don't know what drivers would make the change. Ferrari doesn't want to risk a rookie driver based on comments from Luca.

NASCAR, is allowing team's with rookie drivers, to do extra testing for them.

If Kubica came back. Then you'd have a team. But Alonso fits well in the F way of doing things. That's why Kimi wasn't happy there, completely opposite personalities.

And as far as Alonso changing, if you take him out of an environment like F where he is guaranteed the nr 1 slot, he'll ***** and moan like he did as McLaren.

That's shooting themselves in the foot. Instead of running a preconceived hierarchy it would be better to let them race til Monza to determine the pecking order.

In this respect F is archaic and medieval and need to update their game.

FA is set at Ferrari. He will retire from the team and F1 unless something drastic happens. He has been quite public about Ferrari as final team in his career.

I personally like how Red Bull and Mclaren race over Ferrari, in terms of structure and driver competition. That being said Webber played the good team mate as he needed to at the end. With some help of the pit wall radio :)

Couldn't that "something drastic" be the un-ability of the team to provide him with a car (and an environment) able to secure another Championship? What would be in his mind at the end of 2013 if the Title slips outside his grasp next year also?

This is no provocation on my part, only that a friend of mine, whom I consider able of interesting comments, said at the end of 2007:
"if F.A was really a great driver, he should have found a way to stay at McLaren"
and at the end of 2009:
"I think by going to Ferrari, he has make another mistake; I believe he will not win another championship here..."

    He had not another option.

The other teams capable of winning were closed to him.

Your friend sounds like a genius!!! Unless Alonso wins a championship, in which case he's wrong.

Of course Peter...and I reminded him of this already at the end of 2010, when it was really close; but: I nevertheless believe that he will not win the Title in 2013, and that we will see "some changes" at the end of that year...

We waited 21 years between 1979 and 2000; and how long between 2007 and the next one?

Italy needs a new Prime Minister. The current one isn't flamboyant enough.

    LdM for Presidente!

And the Scuderia can finally hire the talent they need not the Italians they're stuck with.

If Bernie's job isn't available he might settle for president. ;)

He has just again, or once again, denied this a few days ago, said that he is not interested in politics and will rather remain the C.E.O of a "small automobile company".
