Since I have a few CNC machines and no one can tell me I have to be practical (well, they can tell me, but I don’t have to listen) I have a plan to replace various not-so-nice parts in my Ferraris. I love machined aluminum alloy and I intend to make a Pagini Huayra look cheap (just kidding Mr. Pagini – you make a very nice car albeit a tad bit on the expensive side).

The 550 has a contender for the world’s cheapest handle for its trunk release. It’s plastic and flops down and the cable has ground out a big hole in the fabric, and fingernails from desperately using the handle have chewed up the surrounding Alcantara.

So there was only one thing to do, program myself to dream about erotic handles, telekinetically transfer the result to our CAD/CAM system and then fire up the 7 axis CNC turning center. I couldn’t decide between clear or black anodize, so I tried both. My car has a black interior and I liked the way the clear brightened it up a bit. The handle has a nice flange on its base that keeps it stable and covers up the worn hole. It has setscrew holes on the back and that’s how it attaches to the cable. I like it!

Awesome! Will you make more of those? The only rediculous thing I could suggest to add might be "550" cutout in the handle to lighten it.

My emergency trunk pull is under the shelf covering, but that is a nice handle, well done:)

I just realized yours is a Barchetta, that explains it.

Dave in the old days i seem to remember the 308 had a nice rear bonnet release that was a latch like the door release but in silver with Ferrari on it. I think that retrofit could make a nice modification.

    Rock,
I have a black interior also and can do subtle (anyway the car is silver so I don't need any more silver!!) so if you have no need for the black one I will gladly take it off your hands - even pay for the pleasure. Please email me if interested. I particularly like the flange on the base - sets it off nicely.

nice work! all my pulls seem to be hidden on the newer cars.
BUT, if are ever inclined to make some machined aluminum or steel pulls for the 512bbi, count me in. i had one made in stainless when the original potmetal pos broke. but the guy insisted on a ridiculous price so i only bought the one i needed, and there are at least another 4 that will break at some point.

Well, if you were in the U.S. I'd have you send me a bottle of wine or something. But since it looks like you're in OZ that's not practical. So give me your address and I'll mail it and if we ever meet up you owe me a beer.

You never know - if you want to send me a picture with some dimensions I'll keep it in mind for maybe making a few some day..

    Rock,
Very generous and thanks in advance. You know we have great wine in Tasmania, not to mention the world's best roads. The wine doesn't travel well so should be drunk locally - more than happy to show you how. Meantime here is a shot of us competing in Targa Tasmania to whet your appetite.

    Rock,
The handle arrived thanks. My wife thought she had a present coming - soon found out who it was really for... I will fit it when next home.
Thanks again and looking forward to shouting the beers.

That is a great little upgrade. Ferrari should be making these parts this way in the first place of course, and all the other switches and panels that are prone to the "stickies".
