    My name is Darrin Poarch, owner of A-Class Transmission & Service located just outside of Dallas, TX. I have a customer with a 2005 Ferrari F360 Spider with a Check Engine Light. It has approximately 35,000 miles. The codes are;
    P0015 - CAMSHAFT POSITION 'B' TIMING OVER RETARDED B1
    P0025 - CAMSHAFT POSITION 'B' TIMING OVER RETARDED B2
P0442 - EVAP EMISSION SYSTEM LEAK DETECTED (SMALL LEAK)
P0300 - RANDOM CYLINDER MISFIRE DETECTED
    P0306 - CYLINDER 6 MISFIRE DETECTED
    P0308 - CYLINDER 8 MISFIRE DETECTED
    P0305 - CYLINDER 5 MISFIRE DETECTED
After retrieving the trouble codes, I reset the ECU and drove approximately 20 miles and only P0015 and P0025 codes returned. I suspect an EVAP leak and I'm about to perform a smoke test to verify but my question is what would be causing the CAM POSITION codes? What are the common problems with this particular model? Normally when I see this many misfire codes, I would suspect a leak around the intake manifold. That would explain the EVAP codes also.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank You,
    Darrin

    Hi Darren,

    I'm no mechanic but....

Leaking gaskets at the base of the inlet manifold are reasonably common.

Problems with the fuel vapour recycling are reasonably common.

I note all the codes you quote are somewhat "generic" which might lead one to consider something pretty basic and common to all cars, such as the inlet manifold you've considered.

Bad earth points particularly of the two main ECU's on either side of the engine (under the engine bay covers) can cause multiple codes also.

It's not uncommon for some codes to take quite a while to come back after clearing them.

There are variators on two of the four camshafts so a failure of the solenoid controlling same could perhaps cause the error codes. That said, there is very little mention of either P0015 or P0025 on this forum or in the 360/430 thread.

Smoke test should help diagnose. After that I think I'd be looking at the various earth points.

Hope this is of some use to you and that you find the cause. If you do, please DO come back and post the solution yeah?

    Best!

There was a TSB regarding the fuel tank vent valves and the rubber gasket for them. Remove engine bay side panels and check the the tops of the tanks for any signs of seepage around the valves. There are two valves per tank. The updated gasket between the valve and the tank is green not white.

I would suggest not to drive the car any further until those cam timing faults are investigated.

I might add a major service question. Sounds like the timing belts are close to exhaustion if not changed recently. Mileage is a serious hint.

Very interesting stuff... I think my car has a small leak from the intake manifold gaskets / solenoids , so can you take pictures and post when you perform the smoke test ?

It would be interesting to see where the leak was...

On my car we tried to pinpoint the leak using a brake cleaner spray , but were unable to alter the idle by spraying around the gaskets...

My mechanic thinks the leak must be somewhere unreachable with the brake cleaner spray...

    Keep us posted

P.S. when we hooked up the computer, we didn't get any error codes, just some warnings about potential knocking / pre-ignition of fuel (before the knock sensor can intervene) ... Those were the words of my mechanic...

    +1

Also, with regard to the timing / misfiring errors, I am wondering has this car had its camshaft variators checked / replaced / updated ???

Maybe refer your customer to a local expert. I'd suggest Norwoods over by Love Field. 972-831-8111.
