usually the $
That's a neat looking car. The rear view is great with the chunky rears and no fog lights. That was the last year of the carbed cars so it could be a transition item. A BB.5.
$75-80k? would seem to be all it's worth. these cars have no real value seriously...bet it is north of $125k. pcb
a really nice one just sold 105K, 84BBi with 5K reported miles on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1984-Ferrari-512-BBi-Berlinetta-Boxer-/140892225165?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item20cdd4be8d
thank you. i watched that. i was surprised at the result (but i just looked and didn't realize how low the miles were - so not apples/apples to the cars i have been considering). lets see if the deal closes (eBay is notorious for deals falling through...) i was shown a few cars in the mid/upper $90s. seems like buyers want to pay in the $80s to $90k and sellers are mid/high $90s. you guys are going to hate me but i'm buying an early 911S. i couldn't get comfortable on the boxer market (not sure why i could on the 911 market). i would still like to buy a boxer if i found the right car. thank you for everyone's help.
No hatin' here. Please take this in spirit delivered: if you weren't comfortable, you did the right thing getting the 911. Boxers invoke passion of the first order. If you weren't at that level, car was not for you.
Spoke with Steve at RPM a month ago about this car I believe that want $129K. Many incorrect details inside and out but still a cool car and I like the color.
That boxer has been for sale for several years. I believe that It was there when I purchased my 308 from them over 4 years ago.
You should be able to get a nice 993turbo for less than a nice Boxer that will be a great car, will appreciate fast and will be worth more than a concour winning Boxer in only a few years. Air cool Porsches are headed up fast!
Porsche made 68,029 air cooled 993 and 5,978 993 turbos. Total Ferrari Boxer production was 2,323 from 1973-1984. Don't get me wrong, I really like Porsches but let's keep things realistic. Boxers haven't even made the run up in price yet. They will be $150k then $200k before long.
Agree on both points. Have owned 7 or so 993s, awesome cars for sure. They have sprung up mightily in price over last 24 months, but I see cars now sitting at their 'new' level as many 993 tts are touching 997tt prices creating a stale mate. I too feel the handbuilt, beautiful, capable, intoxicating Boxer will come into its own. Yes, we've said it for sometime, but the time is only getting nearer.
Yeah but some of us like to drive so sad that fast cars are a concors item. Boxer prices are very much driven by condition and originality. Mine actualy is original down to the paint, and I can tell you it takes a semi large fortune to keep it that way and running properly. Given what i know it tkes to make a boxer run properly I am going to say that over 90% of them out there do not run properly. When they do they are truly sublime, when they do not, they look great but you wonder what all the fuss is about.
no effen way. this driving the boxer pricing down exercise is getting totally laughable. the dinos are are headed to $500k for the best (i have it on good word that one recently transacted at a new record breaking price (even > $467.500 ). daytonas are holding firmly in the +/- $350k range. boxers are doomed to be stuck w/ the ceiling of +/- $100k? Really? I'm LOLing. the boxer is a blue chip cars boys...sorry but only the boxer thread attempts to drive pricing down. it is about time we move on to another discussion or let's better define: Rat Driver Nice Show Investment let's try that...we can then apply a value to each and further detail the cost required to bring the car to a higher defined level/price point.
Remember when a miura was the same price as a boxer. Now if you want a mid engined ferrari there is really only one. The Tr being visualy challenged and so much more modern. Now if you want a vintage front engined ferrari there are many choices. Point is in time aboxer will be worth more than a daytona, there is only one choice when it comes to the mid engined ferrari, and as soon as the investor class gets to classify the boxer, that is what will happen. Look at prices in Europe and you can see it happening already. Holding the boxer back is that it is hard to use for efete drivers has bad Ac and is not too practical, the very elements that will make it so vlauable in time. Yes it cost a fortune to run, but does that matter to a 500k car?
sean, it is actually getting friustrating that the only place that really holds the boxer back is this board. these cars are are creeping up in europe and in the united states...outside of the ebay fleas. wilanast, surfacemaster and I sat around william's boxer the other night drinking a stellar bottle and smoking some of castro's best....we spent some quality time solving for how the boxer could possibly ever, under any circumstance play second fiddle to a dino or daytona. good boxers are simply sublime my any measure. the complex shape and curves of a boxer need to be deeply studied to really appreciate. last, dont think for a second that the boxer is 2x the cost to operate than a dino or daytona. parts and labor are big for all vintage ferraris. pcb
Nonsense. This board is just a reflection of reality. For whatever reason, Boxers don't seem to attract speculators (probably just as well, as they don't tolerate sitting around unused very well). Maybe it's the gray market history in the US, or the fact that the 70s cars still aren't old enough to be in fashion (although the Dino would seem to be counter to that), but whatever it is, you have cause and effect backwards.
Daytonas and Dinos also do not like sitting around. There is a mentality that seems to have stuck for years that the BB is not the car to appreciate in value or, became unloved because of the drastic change from the 365GTB/4. 365s and BB settled in around the same values in the mid 80's The trend was that the 365 gradually went up and the BB languished. It wasn't any faster, but it did explore a new avenue for Ferrari in engine design for a road going Ferrari. We are led to believe that the Daytona is the last of the real Ferraris because of Enzo's involvement but I do not agree. We saw the BB as a gray market car only, that was compromised when imported to the meet the USA standards. Many did not not run properly. The brainwashing had already begun. I have driven many Dinos and have never been really exited that made me want to take the plunge. Even when they were 10k in 1979 Not including the 250 series, no other Ferrari but the Daytona & BB got me excited every time I drove them. Yes I wish I had purchased that Daytona but my 79 512BB leaves a smile that I can't wipe off for hours after my drive. Top notch 365GTB/4 are 500K buy one for 360 and don't be surprised that it will eat 75K. My 2 cents
I absolutely respect your opinion! And, given that I have toyed with the idea of selling my Boxer, I hope you are right.
