    All,

Can someone tell me what the 328 should idle at. I bought mine last month and yesterday was the first time I could take her out due to weather. She idles at 1500 which seems high to me. I would think 1k would be better but I'm not sure.

    Thank you for your feedback.

    328 Warm Engine Idle = 1000 +/- 100 RPM

but your tach may not be 100% accurate -- so better to use some other means like a frequency counter on the flywheel RPM sensor signal or a (good digital) timing light with RPM function to "calibrate" the tach. Cold start-up idle will be somewhat higher.

Make sure to check your carpet in not pushing on the gas pedal.

I go that one already....right after it was delivered and we were driving it, it was idling at like 2500 and I was thinking WOW, these really are hot blooded cars. Then I eventually figured out it was the floor mat.

It still seems high to me at 1500. Might be a vacuum leak someplace.

Does the throttle plate return to the rest / idle position? You can tell by manually operating it and when it returns to the idle position, it makes this click sound. If not, then your throttle cable is too short or is sticky and needs adjusting.

It's very easy to turn it down, by hand, no tools required. Takes 5 seconds. Sadly I'm not a mechanic and don't know how to tell you other than "turn that bolt". I saw it done by my mechanic and have used it ever since.

There are a couple of things with the idle.

When its cold, it will idle higher - 1500 sound about right ... then once the water gets warm it will step down to about 1000 +/- ...

if its not you can adjust the idle speed by adjusting the big screw coming from the metering unit ( when lookig at the engine bay, its on the right - right behind the trunk under the black air box with the Ferrari logo script on it. look right below where all the Fuel injection hoses are going to the engine, you will see a large hose going to the plenum right under it you will see a gray metal tube with a big screw coming out of it with a spring wound under it. that is the throttle adjustment screw... I think the owners manual will show this as well. close ( tighten ) lowers idle... more air raises idle.... )

however there are a few items that can cause a higher idle, so just resetting the screw may not always fix the problem.

a vacuum leak can be one, loose hose clamp, or cracked o ring in the idle mix screw could all be a cause.

Thanks for the feedback. She's in the shop right now getting this and the fluids done. Can't wait to get her back.
