    ok - before you laugh me off the page firstly I am just passing a comment made by a very well known old chap / true gent, - in New Zealand who has had numerous exotic Ferrari's - and he still has old stuff of international importance.

    He stated recently he thought a well sorted original dino would prove to be worth more ( wait for it ) .....................


    .....than any V8 excepting the latest iterations that are now coming out. He also jibbed he would not see this as he has age against him... I gasped and nearly chocked on my lunch but thought i'd just throw it out there. I am sure Hans will agree lol............

    I am sure this will be blown right out of the water , and I don't care a hoot , as whilst I own a GT4 I fully intend on adding a 355 to my garage in a year or two as they are sooooo darn cool... but the 4 will never go...

    but could this ever be possible??. surely not possible.

    Maybe, I notice that DK Engineering in the UK, has a 328 listed more than a 360, and a 308GT4 listed only 10k under the 360. So the gap seems to be closing.

    Production numbers were fairly low on the GT4. Also I imagine the euro's will be more sought after, at first anyway, no offense to the US version owners. Plus take into account how many cars are rust buckets beyond restoration these cars are in somewhat limited supply.
    However as the price goes up we will be seeing more on the market.
    The 360's are everywhere, they aren't classic and won't be for a long time.

    Maybe we are blowing the trumpets a bit too soon, perhaps let's just dust off the trumpets and get ready to start polishing them. It's going to be a few years before we start seeing any real movement on prices.

    However I for one am keeping my ears open for a second euro GT4. Prices wont get any lower.

    Well I think he is right, a well sorted original Dino 206 or 246 is more worth than any V8 excepting the latest iterations ... the next very interesting car may be a early 308 GTB vetro euro spec car.

    The "other" Dinos / GT4's are honestly not that beautiful a V6 Dino is - but a 250 GTE for example is far from beautiful (imo) and offered over 100.' because it's rare or old ... I'm sure that a nice 308 GT4 will not decline in value! Some cars get abused for racing cars, other cars are damaged badly and used for spare parts and the rest is rusting:)

    In 5 to 10 years I think they will pass each other at about 40 to 45K. This is of course a US prediction in USD.

    Mine has been appraised recently at EUR 55K, which in todays money equals $71K.

    Getting an appraisal of course is a lot easier than getting the actual money, but still..... :)

    You're all missing the plot - that 308 GT/4 will actually be running-and-driving in 10 years, properly maintained.

    The 360 WILL NOT. All those electronic engine, suspension, and transmission doo-dads will be inoperable, waiting for someone to reverse-engineer all those third-party, proprietary 'black boxes' and their custom software to put the cars back on the road again. MAYBE that will happen, maybe it won't, as the cars won't be worth anything for folks to care deeply that they don't start or drive 'right' anymore.

    That definately plays into my prediction. Although electrics are better than they used to be and if they drop enough in value and enough of them end up in the bone yards, used black boxes may not be too expensive. I'm waiting for the day I see a teenager in a 360 with a primered fender or a screw on body kit.

    I'm not saying anything about my appreciation for the 360, I think it's a great car and I'd love to have one some day. It is on my list if the prices intersect with my ability to pay.

    I also like the GT4 but I envision when I'm in a position to purchase a 2nd Ferrari it will appreciate in a manner to just keep out of my range.

    You mean like the almost worthless 1984-1992 Corvettes that nobody can get replacement electronics for? You pick these cars up for ~$5K, while 2-9 years older non black box cars command 2-3 times as much, and that group of cars isn't that desirable. either.

    Just another perspective, when i search for used 308 GT4s in all of Europe via mobile.de, i get 8 hits. When searching for a Ferrari 360 instead, i get 310 hits.

    For a quick overview i've put the overall production numbers (e.g. all models cumulated) in a chart below to see which are the more rare models and which are the mass produced ones.

    I completely think this is possible.
    Once the snobs who look down on the GT4 as "not quite a Ferrari" are re-educated (or die off from old age) and the unfair stigma on these cars melts away as it did on the V6 Dinos, that will be the foundation for increasing values. The evidence is already abundant in Europe. But the US Ferrari market is far more status-driven so it will take time for us to catch up.

    You need to put that chart into perspective. Try adding Porsche production in there. Now add Corvette production to your graph...

    There is little relative difference in Ferrari production across models. They are ALL low volume; none are mass produced.

    Correct, i should have put mass produced in quotes. What i wanted to show is the difference in output between the 308 GT4 and the 360.

    What is interesting is, it could well easily be argued the GT4 was so low in production numbers due to being the so called ugly ducking- however what ever the reason it is so and the result is quite low numbers. We all must remember the weird looking school girl who at 25 year reunion is a killer.

    Further as the not so desirable of F cars how many have been rattled raced and rolled?. To keep one sorted with such a perceived low value will have been quite a decision for many hence well maintained original GT4's may well be 1/4 of the above number.

    meh. I had a 208GT4. You guys can have the weird old slow stuff. Not that i like modern cars, but the GT4 ,Jalpa and Uraccos were not sold in large numbers, so they were not MADE in large numbers. By then all the sodium valves will have been replaced we hope. :)

    208 ain't a 308. A good early Series 1 308GT4 is fast enough and makes the right noises. It's not about performance, nothing OLD does anything performance-wise anymore. It's about having something that really reflects the era. The oddball styling of the Gt4's is looking better every day, and I would not be surprised (OK a little bit surprised)is GT4s blew right past all of the 80s' and 90's cars for desirability. Not sheer beauty, but it's quirky styling and beautiful cockpit DO appeal to a certain number of people.


    Either way a good 308GT4 is just a ridiculously entertaining car.
