looks very good on the move , i don't think it sounds 'crappy'...just too muffled and burbly, imotoo non-descript.. not hyper enough for a 1mil hypercar... but did anyone think it was going to sound 'better' / more 'exciting' than a high revving Ferrari V12? just as the 458 is more visceral than the 12C, the new 'Enzo' will just as well vs P1
loads of pics but no interior shot. He got the door open at an obscure angle.. but not inside. I guess they were censored by Ron..
Here is the first glimpse of the interior: http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2012/12/scoop-mclaren-p1-filmed-testing-on-road.html Not much to see though. Looks like a modified MP4/12C.
To quote someone who has seen and sat in the car at the MTC: "Thats NOT the interior. That's a mule with a modified 12c interior" We're still waiting. >8^) ER
The P1 interior is very nice. Plenty of room. Driver is positioned to the center of the car. Room to wear a helmet. Controls reachable. VERY good visibility. Glass roof is nice.
It's a well known fact that the F70 will sound and look a million times better than the P1. Even is the P1 will be faster (I hope it isn't), the difference will be too small to be detected by your average driver.
It's virtually impossible for anyone to weigh a car "dry" as that means without coolants, oils and hydraulic fluids.
Jim, I could be wrong but I can't imagine that there's not a method for their madness. There is no way they spent the money that they did on capital improvements, specifically expansion not efficiency, if there is not some end game that utilizes that. Given the pace of technology, the unused capacity will need to be used in a relatively close time frame for it to be worthwhile. So, what is it? More cars in the existing lines and their successors? Another model? Something else? These guys don't pull down the money they do because they're morons. Also, they are clearly closing the gaps on the demand as evidenced by the decreasing profits the flippers are getting (even on the new models) when compared between the current cars and the 360 back in its hey day, both in terms of absolute dollars and (duh) as a percentage of MSRP.
I was more impressed with the interior than the exterior of the MP4/12C so I have high hopes for this one. I like the glass roof and what you have just described sounds great. Did they keep a center console?
I was on the schedule for a ride in the 918 at Barber in Alabama today. Came down with the flu and forced to cancel. Will reschedule. Are you down there?
Wow, these are the comments that i really don't understand. "well known fact", you have to be kidding me...
That's still not going to take another 300 lbs out of an Enzo to get you to 2,755. Maybe if you took the wheels and tires off. >8^) ER
The Enzo has about 10 gallons of fluid besides gas (i.e., coolant, engine oil, power steering, brake, refrigerant, F1 fluid, differential). That's about 70 pounds. So the dry weight is about 3013 lbs. BTW, the owner's manual says the Kerb weight (all fluids) is 3086 lbs. I measured 3083 lbs without gas. So maybe Ferrari reports the no-gas weight.
Thanks for the added stats - that all seems to make sense. maximilien was suggesting the Enzo weighed much less: Not certain what his source is for that figure, but he was then using it to suggest the Enzo successor would also come in at that weight since the Ferrari presentation slide appears to imply their weights will be equal. >8^) ER
Can't be worse than when Car & Driver put an Aventador on the scales in the US and it weighed 300+ lbs more than the car they weighed in Europe. All the hype Lamborghini put out there about the car weighing less than 3800 lbs and the car still ends up weighing just under 4100 lbs.
Looks like LHD. Is it offset or is it like McL F-1? I didn't know it was well-known, as only a very few people know the actual "look" of the F-70. But if it is well-know, please show me the design so I can let you make the decision for me--after all, my opinion is irrelevant as a million times more people than I have obviously determined this for me. As for the comment about differences in driving . . . I have driven similar cars in anger--one of the closest pair is the 575 Manual and the 550 with engine mapping. Even though their performance difference is slight, I can tell the difference. I am experienced, but wouldn't call myself a great driver. But, I will bet you that I can get in the P1 and the F70 and have significantly different impressions.
Yes - for sure their plans are to produce P1 in LHD only. This is a question I asked. They have been known to say that they would never say no to an owner's request - simply inform them on what it would cost to realize, but I don't know if that would apply to someone who might want a RHD conversion of P1. >8^) ER
Erik: Has there been any information from your contacts with regards to customer specific bespoke options for the P1? Brake options, center hub assemblies, etc. On another note, In the interview with Peter Stevens he seemed to suggest front motor drive mechanicals relating to the KERS system. I am not sure if that was his personal opinion or was speaking from intimate knowledge of the program. Front electric drive would indicated that the proposed KERS system be a mechanical over electric platform. I thought there was talk of a totally mechanical KERS solution. Can you shed any light?
KERS is electric and it's Rear wheel. Period. I believe they will do what ever a customer want's within motor vehicle laws and if you only want a track use car they'll go even further. My sense is they want to help customers realize their dreams what ever they are. Note the one off they did that was shown at Quail.
