As most of you will be aware, the last Auction Room programme on ABC,last Sunday, featured a number of classic cars going up for the Manheim auction at Autoclassica. Bill Hemming put the white/cream No 3 car, pictured,up and was hoping for a couple of hundred thou,it did'nt get there. In fact an extremely small number of cars sold. Does anyone have a results list???I can't seem to find one anywhere.
This book should be an interesting read: http://theage.drive.com.au/motor-news/former-executive-to-tip-a-bucket-on-holden-20121212-2b8ji.html
You don't see many of these. Always thought they were a great looking thing, and different to a Camaro or a Mustang. Not a bad price considering it is already here, and RHD. http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/dealer/details.aspx?R=AGC-AD-12908125&Cr=0
One like that was my dads daily when I was about 11. 343 V8, went well for the time. Btw, they were sold here new RHD.
Australian assembled were they? I didn't know that Jon. I had a school friend whose mother (yes) had an AMC AMX. It had a carpeted flat panel instead of a back seat, as no doubt you know. 343 V8 Automatic. It was red with a white stripe, just like the Ford Torino out of Starsky and Hutch. It also had Side Pipes, not sure if they worked or not though. I always remember that car as I had a ride in it. Man, we though we were the Ducks Guts. I reckon I have only ever seen one or two other AMXs. Ever.
Look at the padding on the passenger side dash. Wouldn't need an airbag with all that in front of you!
I think dads was a 69. Javelin with the back seat, not an AMX. Red when he bought it then had it colour changed to.....blue!
I'm pretty sure they were assembled by AMI(Australian Motor Industries),possibly in South Aussie. There are a couple up here.
AMI were in Melbourne, they used to assemble all sorts of cars, including Toyotas. Find an old enough Corona and it'll have an AMI badge on the side. You blokes need to put your rose coloured glasses down, the Javelin was a gutless piece of junk. A 308 Holden would walk away from it at the lights and handling and brakes were woeful. Nice shape though. ps. AMI became Toyota Australia...
