Vettel will not forget Ferrari's post-finalé behaviour

Ferrari has damaged its chances of ever luring Sebastian Vettel from Red Bull, Dr Helmut Marko claims.

It has been rumoured for some time that German Vettel, Red Bull’s triple consecutive and reigning world champion, might one day consider a move to Ferrari.

But outspoken Austrian Marko said: "Sebastian has the memory of an elephant. He logs everything.

"And he will remember exactly how Ferrari behaved after the finale," he told Sport Bild.

Marko is referring to Ferrari’s end-of-season suggestion that Vettel, 25, should be stripped of his latest title for overtaking illegally in Brazil late last month.

Marko claims Ferrari’s charge was "below the belt", and that Vettel himself was unimpressed.

Vettel is quoted as saying: "You don’t want to lose, but you still should know how to.

"You have to respect your opponent and recognise their good performances," he added.

I guess Seb didn't get the memo; Ferrari has greater respect for Newey's aero-ingenuity and have frequently & openly said they were racing Newey and not Vettel.

Talking about under-handed tactics vs inquisitive questioning, RB's attempt to con the FIA into believing that their car was experiencing mechanical issues and hence couldn't return to the pits after qualifying (and their insistence on inspecting the car before shipping it to parc ferme) in Abu Dhabi was more "below the belt" than a question posed by Ferrari in the forma of a letter to the FIA for clarification on a pass under yellow flag.

I highly doubt that this will have any effect on Vettel joining the Scuderia. For two reasons:

1) Consider the source: Marko
2) The Ferrari lure is strong.

 

RB fans will disagree and actually went as far as saying there is no lure or "mythical status" at Ferrari or that Red Bull has its own "mythical status" rivaling that of Ferrari.

On what exactly would that mythical status be based? On a few years of participating in F1? Or winning three championships?
Sounds like a bunch of millenials believing RB's hyperbole spin. They probably also think RB is a team without team orders.

Mark is actually better off at Red Bull. He at least an atmosphere where he can race his team mate until the points or status in the championship say other-wise.

 

Ferrari are a real team not a myth. Fallable and human believe it or not. I do not feel Red Bull is anything more than Ferrari. They both are race teams in F1. The world turns without either. I am so happy not to be plagued with a hero worship syndrome.

F1 dries up and blows away without Ferrari.

 

Webber was dumb enough to believe he would actually be able to challenge for the title at Red Bull and isn't the #2 there. Thus, when the negotiations were occuring during the middle of the year and Webber was near the top of the points (and frequently outqualifying/beating Vettel), he didn't want to leave because he thought the team would turn on him if he did, ruining his chances of a WDC.



I bet if he could do it all over again he would be in red.

 

Webber has wins he would NEVER have if he wore red. He seems pretty happy where he is. If he was going to leave he would have. Red Bull seems like a pretty nice place to be. Kimi would like it there Im betting as well. Possibly he does feel Red Bull give him an honest chance to win.

 

Time to re-watch the Abu Dhabi race; I especially like how Horner straight out lies to multiple tv press immediately afterwards qualy

 

There must be a language barrier. No one is saying they are a fable.

As Jeremy Clarkson has said, "I like to consider Ferrari as a downsized version of God."

Ppl around the world worship or gawk or dream or idolize (whatever word works for you) Ferrari, whether you like it or not, it's real. There's a reason why every time you take your Ferrari out pedestrians stare and take photographs...it's a real car not fable, and ppl perceive Ferrari on a pedestal or two above regular cars.

 

Frankly I could care less who SV drives for even if it is Ferrari, he is not my "Cup of Tea".

 

Great drivers comes and goes, as good as Vettel is at such a young age, I still think Alonso is better and is currently the best at this point in time. There has been many great drivers before Vettel and there will be many more after, so if Vettel does not want to drive for Ferrari, so be it. Ferrari will find someone else that is just as capable. We all know that driver is only part of the equation, had it been the ONLY equation, Alonso and Ferrari would be celebrating their 2012 title now.

Just to name a few great drivers that never drove for Ferrari: Stewart, Clark and A. Senna.
