Last week we made the long trip from Columbus, Ohio to Newport Beach, CA to perform a major paint correction / enhancement detail on a '92 F40...with only 171 miles on it! :)

Joe Sackey was involved in this project, and he even got the opportunity to stop by and visit with us while we were working on the car...thanks for the visit, Joe!

I'll be doing a full write-up with plenty of photos, but until then, I thought I'd post up a few sneak peek shots so you can see the level of transformation that this car went through. After about 35 hours of proper (and responsible) polishing, this F40 is now a jewel!

    Enjoy...

Before: Hazy, dull, and plenty of swirls and micro-scratches.

Great work... Was this an extreme detailing exercise where you clean up everything including the engine bay, wheel wells, calipers, suspension, etc. or was it primarily paint correction?

Todd, great to meet you, especially at Ferrari Newport's state-of-the-art facility (which really needs to be seen to be believed). Your sympathetic detailing after Ferrari Newport's full service has helped this car travel 20 years and it will join another F40 and a pair of 288 GTOs in a very special collection.

It is hard to tell from the photos, but does the weave still show?

Looks incredible! Is that the window sticker, still in place? ;)

When will we see the full story? :)

Yes, that is the car's original Ferrari window sticker still affixed to the windscreen. I checked myself and indeed just 171 miles are upon the odometer.

The original dealer kept this one for himself, and in early January 2013 following a photo-shoot with a top photographer, the car's story will be published both in the print media and online.

Gregg, the owner on the other hand is ecstatic.

FWIW he has a 2nd F40 with considerably more mileage :)

Keith, I missed your post: YES it does show all over the car, but not uniformly as you know is the case with all F40s.

    Best,

Thank you. Mainly paint correction as there's not much needed in the engine / suspension areas with a car with such low mileage.

Thanks Joe, and yes...their facility is top-notch to say the least.

    Thank you!

    Thank you!

Yes...we preserve that aspect of originality. Wetsanding on such a car is a big no-no!

Thanks, and yes...original sticker on the window! As soon as I get some time, I'll put together the full article with plenty of great photos showing the transformation this car went through.

    Indeed.

It sits in the showroom as we speak, and I will post images after the shoot in January.

Thanks Steve. We used German liquid abrasive polishes from Scholl's and Sonax.
