    The part numbers on that tag in the bottom photo (113365 and 113359) come up on the www.allferrariparts.com website as being transfer gears for a 308LM (but without the correspond center gear, I don't think they can be used on a regular 308). The number of teeth are shown as:

    113365 = 28T

    113359 = 32T

    and that seems sort of reasonable (i.e., putting the 32T on the engine output and the 28T on the gearbox input would give a few percent more top end for an LM application vs the street ratio of 30T/27T). Do those tooth counts match the parts attached to that label?

    That other gear set, with only 23 teeth on one gear and 32 teeth on the other seems like too much of an overdrive ratio to be useful -- but maybe they had a crazy idea at the time ;)

    I believe that's the LM 5th gear set. 308s over the years with their varying power outputs varied the 5th gear ratios. Someone with a much more powerful engine (me!) might be able to put that set in and get some use out of them. In a stock engined car they make little sense though. And even in my case I'm very pleased with where 5th gear cruises. Shelf em, or make a paperweight IMO.

    stock is 27/28/30 the idle being 28 also has no effect on the ratio so 27/30=0.9 ratio
    the pics above show writing of 23/32 and 27/28, you'd need 3 gears to change the set so not sure what ratio is desired, 32/23=1.39? 23/32=0.718?

    You're right -- I had the stock ratio backward, so depending on which gear is mounted where, that LM set (assuming they are 28T and 32T and not what's shown on the label) in a 32/X/28 configuration would have quite a bit more top end than stock (like ~25%), or if mounted 28/X/32 it would have a little less to top end (so that seems unlikely to me).

    Not only would you need a new center gear, but (without putting a whole lot of thought into it) you'd need different center-to-center distances so a whole different bellhousing piece and cover?

    I couldn't figure out which way they wanted to go with it. In any case the idle would take up the gear lash between the two and since it doesn't alter the ratio it doesn't matter what it's tooth count is. long story short, a different center to center isn't needed.

    those are both drive gears, idler is missing.

    Indeed the guy selling this collection of gears on eBay says they are for a transfer box based on looking up the part nos - but seems to know little else about them.

    But as you guys point out without the middle gear their pretty much useless.

    So what is a 308LM ?
    and why did it use helical transfer gears and not the straight cut as used by Michelotto on the gp4 rally cars ?
