well, it sort of is....just like this particular case. This guy was hardly a career criminal, but because he had access to guns so easily, he was in a position to kill lots of innocent people.

How many people get angry with people and just pull out their gun and shoot them? Plenty, I'd bet. Here, you might hit them, which is bad enough, but that's about it.

    Maybe a stabbing at worst.

Those were gun related crime figures. Not cars.

I think assault rifles have been banned carte blanche here as well

There is just NO reason for an automatic weapon in civilised nations outside of the military , when was the last time you would have seen a need for fully automatic weaponry from our law enforcement personnel ?

Exactly, why ban guns when cars and bad eating habits do much more damage?

That's what I put up in silver:
Cars are designed for:transportation and for all of us on this forum, exhilaration.
Knives(this was brought up as a murder weapon)unfortunately are a multipurpose tool.

    GUNS ARE DESIGNED FOR.........

    Someone did'nt like the truth,perhaps.
    For the record,I HATE GUNS.

the second amendment states : A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

OK, i understand that innocent people are dying and that is really one death too many. but guns are not the only way to kill people. and tbh, self made bombs are not too hard to make these days too.

but from a guy who comes from a country where people's liberty is as much which side of the bed the local politician wakes up to; and people's home and private property can be removed and destroyed at the will of it's government; people are automatically assumed guilty before trial and you could be condemed/jailed/tortured if you voice your disagreement of your government. Almost every citizen in that country wish they could legally own a gun to defend themselves.

it's a double edge sword, and it's not a pretty one. but freedom's cost = blood. that unfortunately is the undeniable truth.

So your saying I can't run over 27 kids waiting at a bus stop? Didn't 9/11 happen without the use of guns? If you want to kill people you kill people.

I use guns for sport. Why aren't I allowed to use any weapon for sport? Nothing to do with carrying a weapon.

Why not ban horse racing. There is no point to that sport besides gambling or boxing or martial arts.

Don't whine about nazi states in Australia when your views about guns are no different to people that are anti-"insert fun activity".

20 babies were killed and this will make NO difference to the moronic rednecks defending their right to hold a gun

when did you last see 27 kids run over at a bus stop ??!!

When did you last hear about a mass shooting ?

One has never happened, the other is getting commonplace and has happened around the world and is always carried out by redneck, gun-wielding morons

You really think that not having access to a gun would have stopped this nutcase?

The quoted post below shows how ignorant anti gun arguments are.

The Yanks are going nut's on this in P&R thread....very depressing that so many, what I thought, intelegent type folk who apparently have/had the same ideal's as us,in Aussie, turn out to be what Morett's says.

Hey, scud - I understood precisely what you were trying to convey on the P&R thread. I firmly believe the "troll" comments were undeserved, for obvious reasons - but as well - there is another *gasp* "foreigner" [from Denmark] who usually goes full-tilt, and inappropriately so with a bit too much delight on these threads which occur too often.

Drives me nuts. The silver thread is where the hearts are, apparently. Though it's P&R, what particularly sets me off about this tragedy is how few in the P&R thread [who didn't participate in the Silver thread] actually mention the Kindergartners. Me-me-me-me-me-me.

S Brake, just today a man attacked 22 at a school in China with a knife. Guess what the difference was to today's attack in CT?

    None of them died.

Stating that the method used for an attack has no bearing on the body count is putting your head in the sand. I guess if this guy had used a nuke, it would have only been 26 dead because he was a crazy out to get 26 people, right?

The argument about weapon of choice is that a knife attack won't affect as many people, the attack in china proves that wrong. As far as casualties are concerned, not everyone that gets stabbed dies, likewise not everyone that gets shot dies. The thought that doing away with guns would put an end to violent attacks like this is the epitome of putting your head in the sand. Mentally disturbed people will use whatever they can find to accomplish what they want.
