Totally agreed that the Americans can and should work out exactly the kind of society they want.. I for one wouldn't presume to tell them how to live but like any "friend" can still put in an opinion looking in from the outside I feel.. Agreed.. Martin Bryant used an http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AR-15 in the Port Arthur Massacre.. no place for these things in civilian hands and thank goodness our society acted promptly to rectify this situation and no repeat in the nearly 20 years since.
The second amendment is also what's stopping health reform going through in the US so all these nut jobs can get the help they need.
health reform is because USA is not as socialist as we are, having said that we'll see how much hospital funding Vic will have in 2013. Malaysia's hospital cost heaps less than Singapore, does that make Malaysia a better country than Singapore?
get sick in America and see which country you want to live in And yes, Malaysia is a better country but I'm biased, I've never liked Lee Kuan Yew, he was a dictator with myopic views
Because it can't be on the basis of calibre? It's actually not a particularly large calibre or accurate rifle. It does have a magazine, but so do many other rifles. And it's not an "automatic weapon" ie machine gun either..... Must be because because of looks ? The point is a rifle is a rifle, the lethality is not dependent on its looks. M
apparently, the "bushmaster" used by the murderer, whilst not a full machine gun, can fire 3 bullet bursts with minimal recoil. More than enough to kill a 5 year old at close range. An untrained person can point a pistol at you but very likely miss even at close range.
Thanks John Wayne....keep it real and protect us with eternal vigilance........the parents will be proud they have dead babies as a cost of freedom Clearly your are a scholar and expert on international politics and relations, can you just for the record cover off some of the differences between our governments?......
Any idiot can kill a five year old. You don't need a gun for that. Kai PS: have you ever fired a gun? My 10 year old hit a target at 15 feet with his second shot.
If it can fire a 3 round burst ( with one pull of the trigger ) its a machine gun. I'd be very surprised if he had that, as even in the USA, auto firearms are pretty rare, had to get and expensive. Re the pistol, I read somewhere that most people are shot at close range, (ie 2 metres or less ), pretty hard to miss with anything at that range I would have thought. M
in comparison with which country? China, Japan, Singapore, South Africa or Australia? look mate, if you think Malaysia is a better country, no offence mate you need your head read. Lee Kuan Yew is a dictator, but he looked after his people and acted in the best interests of the singaporian citizens. Malaysia is great for the muslims, but any other race? go and ask them how they feel. and IMO, it's better to be ruled by a intellect dictator than a bunch of idiot bureaucrats, ie. European/USA/AUS. of course, could be worse, capitalist imperialism in the name of communism
This has nothing to do with freedom or any other tactic the gun lobby use to hijack these events every time ...it has EVERYTHING to do with why does someone need military style semi automatic high powered weapons which are designed with the single purpose of maximum carnage in the shortest period of time? All the kids where killed by .223 calibre that is a fact - shooting can be fun and a great sport to teach discipline and responsibility but I would love too hear why military style assault weapons are needed in the home in this day and age......
well it was a lot worse in Mao's era, Deng was truely a great man, Jiang was a great politician, Hu is....... dumb as nut. the new guy's new policies are actually very good! we'll see how it goes. but come to think of it. when China builds a freeway, they actually keep it as a freeway (unlike some government!)
The flaw in the pro gun debate is children, as I've already said in this thread. The right to defend yourself is irrelevant when children are involved. We cannot arm 6 year olds. This IMO is why guns should not be part of society. And the fact that he was a nutter argument holds no water either ... a nutter is IMO more likely to choose something that will shock the most, children! Pete.
This is a very emotive and complex issue. I have spent maybe 2 years in total in the USA over 30 years, and have been to 40+ States, but I will just retell a terrible story that was on the news during a trip there many years ago. A 16yo climbs out a hallway window late at night to cladestinely go see boyfriend. At 2am she begins climbing back through the window. Dad wakes, hears the noise, grabs 9mm auto handgun and without turning on the lights, finding out who the intruder is etc, he just blasts away. Shooting first and asking questions later. Result one very dead daughter. I have no idea if that dad still thinks guns are a great idea or not. I guess that some in the gun lobby would say that will teach the daughter to sneak out on her parents, and she wont do that again. 20 years later that story still troubles me.
25,000 citizen DEAD every year 100,000 citizens injured every year Are these soldiers fighting for freedom in some far off land? No they are American citizens blowing each other away......I guess Darwin was right on his theory.....so so sad
John, when I went to the US on my first trip with the RAAF to Mountain Home Idaho some of the boys and I went walking through the foothills having a few drinks and taking pictures of the great scenery covered in snow (we were from QLD so snow is not a daily occurrence for us ). Anyway, we get back to the local pub and relating our day out to the publican and he is horrified ! Seems we picked the first day of the hunting season to go bushwalking and we weren't wearing dayglo vests with a cross on it . This is to give us a fighting chance if there were any hunters doing sound shooting, this is where they hear something and just shoot at it !! This is what I was told by a local and also explained why we saw the word COW in big white paint on cows This was all 30 years ago and maybe the laws have changed ?
It is an emotive issue and it is a big mistake to use logic and facts when discussing the issue. That will get you nowhere. By the way, cow written on the side of cows was maybe so the bulls could recognise a bit of talent? But in any case that was both a funny and scary story. And you would have been 3 sec slow in dodging a bullet. Lucky none came your way.
I've never seen a C4 get anywhere near me on a racetrack True story BTW, just proves how naive we are when we are young and in another country, I also had the bomb squad in London blow up my briefcase with the robot shotgun when I left it outside the Natwest bank while working there. We just don't realise how lucky we are to lead the relatively safe life we lead here, we can still get nut jobs but by and large guns are harder to come by
This is an excellent point but I don't believe this is the reason Americans protect their right to have a gun. It's FEAR and reminds me of the "Bowling for Columbine" movie from Michael Moore in which this was my big takeaway. Explains the sad story above also.
Hear the booming rumble and squeaking of refuse trucks blitzing the colony, mechanized divisions might employ armored personnel to evacuate dwellings, assembling residents for inspection, seize the shoes, initiate a forced march off to internment camps, 12 hours of starvation/water deprivation the captors control a state of deterioration. Without a bucket, confines saturate with e-coli. Keep a rifle or capitulate to pillaging, the debauchery, annexation, and denigration.
How absolutely right you are.....we are just lucky period....safe, wealthy, compassionate and egalitarian
