Sunday services were disrupted in Sandy Hook by a bomb threat. What do we want to ban to prevent that? Phones, household chemicals, www, books, science classes? We have cultural issues that can only be addressed by taking back the institutions responsible for the ideas we infuse into the culture -- the schools, preK-PhD.
the reactions from your countrymen weren't too well received and it seems you were a bit of a rebel back then I have never had a bullet miss me but I've had a few guns pointed at me , two by the US military, in Hawaii and Idaho and the only time in civilian life in London at the Champagne Vaults nightclub by some arsehole bouncer who pulled a gun and came after me for giving him gip about the drinking rules (which I was right about BTW come closing time). A couple of his mates slowed him down as he was wild and just wanted to finish me off, I have never run so fast in my life , Carl Lewis wouldn't have beat me and as I ran across the park I kept zigzagging to make it harder for him to get a bead on me. But he never pulled the trigger so I don't know what it's like to have such a near miss Funnily enough I never went back to that nightclub
Oh,for cryin' out loud:HOW THE HECK CAN YOU COMPARE ANY FORM OF CAR DEATH,WITH THAT DONE BY A SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED ITEM THAT ONLY HAS ONE USE. That is:to KILL something, you don't aim and shoot one those things to injure, you don't(as has been said)buy a car to kill and maim. You don't smoke or take up smoking because you have a proven deathwish, how about all the litigation re the above....I'll bet there could be some huge litigations against the gun producers. In fact you can(and I'm stuffed if I can see why, except to qualify their guilt,)not compare the innocent killing of these people with any type of tragedy or method of any other incident.
with the TAC ads they run in Australia, driving a car (1km/h over the limit) is about as bad as shooting someone with a Gun that's how this Nanny state is, and this is how brainwashed most of us have all become.
Well, perhaps that is the case, but it's the same as me saying, for example, that the Mango crop this year is is going to be down on last year. It does'nt really have any bearing on this thread. I don't,for the life of me,see how ANY comparison to the mass murder of any number of people,by a firearm,be compared to anything else except that. That includes bombs,knives,hammers,chainsaws...whatever. It appears when someone, usually American, starts comparing these other forms of death/murder,they are ,possibly, trying to justify their 2nd ammendment or their guilt at having it and the ability to be allowed to bear arms.
Dumb post. You don't go to gaol for doing 1kph over the limit. Stupid comparison and completely irrelevant.
Why would you agree with such a ridiculous yet obvious comment? Obviously nothing we do changes US policy, but that doesn't mean we can't have an opinion about it.
Sadly, we have a culture that glorifies violence in the form of video games and Hollywood movies. I think desensitization is a major contributing factor. Ed
At the Phillip Island Classic each year, Trevor B is a lot quicker than the 308s competing in the same grouping.
True, but our news reports saying that Australia will show America the way with gun laws, etc. make me cringe. Who the heck do we think we are? Pete
This happens on most topics, from climate change to military engagements, the media has to maintain the conceit that we matter, otherwise admit that their own efforts are meaningless.
http://www.theage.com.au/world/a-mother-a-gun-enthusiast-and-the-first-victim-20121217-2bi6h.html Hmmmm, a mother obsessed with guns and a son with development problems/mental illness who finally lost the plot. Yep, this disaster was clearly unforeseeable. Not. In the US, gun control (along with other things that make perfect sense such as universal healthcare) is akin to communism. I find the paranoia displayed by some Americans absolutely frightening. All this talk of fighting "tyranny" and "oppression" and defending personal liberty at all cost, etc. It's a joke. Well, I suppose you get the society that you deserve.
As tragic as these events are, unfortunately the horse has bolted many years ago regarding gun control in the USA. 300,000,000 guns. Take them back? How? Control? How? I just saw a news item and an "expert" quoted that 40% of all guns sold in the USA over the past 5 years were via "gun shows". (How do you come up with that stat - no idea.) That is where a gun is sold second hand and there is NO requirement to do any background check on the buyer whatsoever. 80% of all gun deaths ( he probably meant murders ) were committed with one of these "gun show" guns that were legally purchased with no back ground check on the buyer. How do you regulate a guy who sells his guns out of his garage? Maybe make it illegal to sell second hand guns except to a lincensed gun dealer who then has to make background checks on the next buyer?? But in any case the lady who owned these guns was "OK", it was just her son who was nuts. How do you stop that? I guess the lesson for other countries is to limit the gun numbers before they get out of control.
strangely enough , since they have alienated themselves from most of the world they DO know where we are. They have few friends and on my last visit to the US with the family they ALL understood we were Aussies .... never had that before, I use to love telling them I was French when I was there with the RAAF and then have a huge giggle when they said we spoke very good English
So there John M. A C4 is not only a refined Gentleman's GT car but can also blast around Philip Island race track at a respectable rate of knots. Well at least faster than some V8 anyways. lol
THAT is the issue, but it seems it is the babies paying the price for "freedom" Good mate of mine lived in Atlanta for 5 years, the only issue he had was he never knew if he would get gunned down by a random
Trev missed a gear last year or the year before and Charlie banged him up the arse Mind you, Trev and Charlie are good punters
Not bad...so a stripped out race car does the same lap time as a road going 308....and this at a track that favours the more powerful car. gee those 308s are good!
