Seeing the mule engine again, I think that rules out Autocars central exhaust hypothesis. Is there some reason they might not be included in the diffuser?

This Zonda engine compartment is a work of art. Beautiful.

Note that Milanno is having trouble incorporating quad exhausts in an attractive way. Maybe the big center exhaust is the way out. I do buy the warning about keeping heat away from the KERS battery, but that is what engineers do.

Does anyone have a picture of how the exhaust is routed in the Maserati Birdcage? Its exhaust is stacked in the middle. Maybe it will have a similar solution. I still think the exhaust will exit like on the 430 Scud / 599XX, somewhere between the lights and higher from the ground. And would not be surprised if there are is only one pipe on each side with one valve activated bypass pipe in the middle

Might be just me but in Milanno's great render the actual 3rd/fog light seems now too low, out of place. Maybe Ferrari's design integrates this highlighted element better.

In any case I'm finding it too low for the width of the car I'm expecting. It will be REAL close to the ground.

This render is really great, but I think it will end up being quite inaccurate.
And I agree that if it is a foglight in the center, it is way too low.

Better, but simply not radical enough. Exhaust gases have proven beneficial in F1 so surely Ferrari will use that expertise here. I have posed the question before but any reason why they could not be incorporated into the diffuser?

FWIW the rear foglamp in the f12berlinetta is mounted higher, such that the lower edge of the lamp is just about on a horizontal line with the top of the quad exhausts. If it is to be useful as a functioning lamp, one would think that it would be higher than the photo suggests. Maybe Autocar is not crazy and the central "pad" really is the exhaust. But if that is so, then there is no foglamp pad. And it does look too small for the volume of gases that will come out of the big V12.

    So it is a headscratcher.

Simply because for a road car people like to get off on seeing multiple exhaust pipes. All Ferraris made to this day could have simply had a single pipe ... but they don't purely for visual impact.

Race car engines run in a higher, tighter RPM range too. Road cars don't produce the consistent high velocity flow that blown diffusers need.

I have impression that people have too big expectations about F70.

For it to be benficial they would have to map the engine so it would blow exhaust gases even when the throttle isn't applied. This was how it was used in F1 when they were blowing directly into the diffuser. I'm not sure, given the context of a road car, where that would put them in terms of long term engine reliability, fuel consumption and road/overall safety.

The leap from F50 to Enzo was HUGE... Maybe that's the reason?

I can't wait to see it, hope it's something visually unique like the Enzo was (and still is).

Given the competition, I somehow doubt it.

That and McLaren has thrown down the gauntlet. Whatever they do will be directly compared, even if unfairly.

From what I've seen so far, they have already beaten the pants off the P11 in the looks department. The fact that it's a V12 over a turbo 8 helps also. Now, it's up to it's performance.
