The union's are not being removed; only being forced to be competitive to prove they are doing something for their workers as a reason to be a member of the union.

The hope is that Jobs will come to Michigan. As Unions will have to more competitive to attract members and keep them, since employees wages are not automaticaly forced to pay a portion to the Union. Its up to the employee to decide to pay his share to a union, not being forced too, thereby staying a member or not.

This makes it more attractive for business to stay or move to Michigan, keeping or moving Jobs to Mi.

Even with huge government backing, green manufacturing companies couldnt remain competitive in Michigan and either left, bankrupt or are being bought by the Chinese.

I had hoped that this thread would die or at least be moved to the politics section where it belongs but I see it was raised again yesterday. The right to work passed in Michigan has absolutely nothing to do with creating jobs and is simply a political move by the right wing fringe to break the unions as they primarily support a Democratic agenda. 8 of the 10 poorest states are right to work states, see how they feel about right to work. There is absolutely no correlation between job creation and the unions. The lame duck Republicans in Michigan shoved this issue through, among other issues, i.e. the right to carry concealed weapons in churches and schools, etc before January when they will no longer have the votes after being slapped down in November. Welcome to the world of Wal-Mart. Please let us know how you like it in 10 years.

You missed the whole point. Low information persons who are swayed by political propagenda and agendas funded by right wing fringe groups i.e. Koch Industries funding the Americans for Prosperity, will learn the hard way. The facts still stand, 8 of the 10 poorest states are right to work. Like I said, lets see how you like it in 10 years.

Yeah, I guess it's better to lose mfr jobs to RTW states, and cheap labor overseas. What were we thinking?

We like right to work just fine here in Texas. Our economy looks a little better than Michigans.

I am afraid that you may have that mixed up with "At will employ" (which means you don't have to have a reason to fire someone). Michigan has been an "at will employ" state for who knows how long (not all states are). Even though Michigan as been an at will employ state forever it has been impossible to fire a UAW member because of contract restrictions.

All of the stories I have heard what they can get away with working in an auto plant truly makes me sick to my stomach.

My ex-wife was an auto worker and I did not understand why they paid her so much and the benefits were beyond belief. Thankfully they have reduced the benefits in recent years.
