Oh, I get it, somehow firearms deaths in "sorry parts of the world" aren't as important. The data is relevant as it provides a basic global comparison. You can draw whatever out of that.

Thanks for the link M. :)
If the barb was aimed at me :( the topic is "is it time for gun control in America"
Perhaps I was trying to stay on topic, or in lingo you might prefer, keeping the target in the cross hairs :D

"gum control" you say, are we on to dentistry now :)?

No barb, just making the point that the problem isn't confined to America.

Also, some advice, if you want to participate in the Aussie section and get your post count up, it helps if you can learn to stray off topic pretty quickly.

I drew no conclusions, but I got the response that I was expecting.

I said earlier that the discussion is pointless, I don't think there will be any significant changes in the US.

Sadly I agree.. although there is at least SOME sane discussion going on there on a wider question on mental health etc.. it shouldn't be just knee-jerk reactionary policy on "gun control".. as that won't get up unless it's to curb at least some excesses (from our conservative point of view anyway)

so for the Martin Bryant year we could hit the top of the charts, while Norway is the "winner" last year

People will be outraged for a while, and then something else will happen that will shift their attention. The phenomenon of mass shootings is relatively new, say the past 30 years or so, makes you wonder what the underlying causes are (and why it is more prevalent in some countries and not others).

Well yes, interesting thing you can do with numbers......
Don't know if they have cherrypicked the data, but at least they have said when the data is from.
And I agree, Norway would have "won" in 2011.
