Norway was just pure racism, about the only "good" thing when the perpetrator survives is you can learn what set them off and hopefully be wary for a repeat
very good article .... http://www.policeone.com/active-shooter/articles/2058168-Lt-Col-Dave-Grossman-to-cops-The-enemy-is-denial/
An interesting observation from a police officers perspective. I personally agree the police should be well armed, they have to deal with the crooks who will get guns no matter what the laws are. But perhaps someone on the pro guns side could explain the relative position of the USA and the UK in the list wrxmike posted. Iirc most police in the UK are not armed, the stats somewhat fly in the face of the cops need guns theory. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_firearm-related_death_rate USA 12th UK 65th
The issue with lax gun laws: can you imagine the damage this upstanding citizen with a handcannon would cause??? http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=141974303&postcount=4263 Oh, and before someone responds with the argument that the victim would also be entitled to be armed, is it really advisable to have two civilians engaged in a shooting in such a situation??? I can see a lot of innocent people getting caught in the crossfire. It's insanity.
Not if they had been properly trained. Gun control is about being able to hit your target. Should have got one of these [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rFvR7Bv9Fk[/ame] M
Could still go to total shiit in the heat of the moment and with so many other uncontrolled variables in play. Sorry, still a bad idea, IMHO.
I wasn't being serious. On the other hand, the monkey seems a great idea. Probably eat a lot though, and crap everywhere too. M

Some more stats http://www.news.com.au/world/guns-in-america-an-interactive-look-at-the-shocking-facts/story-fndir2ev-1226539874646
The shootings had nothing to do with guns!! It had to do with a current sick society propagated by a bunch of politicians with an agenda. As a Doc for many years there is no longer a medical establishment to house and care for the psychologically unstable in the USA as that ended in the 60'sby the politically correct of the time!! As such they are either ware housed in unsuspecting neighborhoods and baker acted via ER's then out on the streets in 72 hours. An incident just happened in our small town in Fl whereby a problematic mentally ill person greeted an unsuspecting 25 yr old young women who was there to help him. He took a 12 inch bladed knife and chased her down the street as she screamed for help. No one helped her and when he caught her he butchered her in a neighbors yard. No one had a gun to assist and she DIED on the yard. All watched unarmed afraid for their own safety. A gun owner would have aided. This incident hardly made the local news You sir from Australia have no knowledge of America's problems and certainly no idea of fixing them. So go back to your liberal fantasy world and stay out of our business.
That's hilarious....if that mentally ill person had a gun, he would have shot his helper and anyone else around well before anyone had the time to run inside to get their gun....or do you think they should wear them on their hips like in the wild western movies? get off your high horse. We're all allowed to have opinions.
Wow...for a learnered man that is a truely bizarre comment Why? You've made it your business to get involved in everyone else's business for the last 50 odd years and managed to mess it up every time......it's called an opinion buddy, something your allowed in a free country....where are you? 1939? with your isolationist mentality....that worked well for you...
What you and some of your Oz brethren are ignoring is that you're merely attacking, recriminating and playing some kind of superiority card. If you want to have a rational discussion about it, that's one thing. If, however, you wish to just make your political hay and ignore, dismiss or quash other's opinions, that's quite another. Don't go throwing bombs and then sheepishly ask, "who me?" Case in point is moretti... Oh, give it a rest… Nice try, but I call BS. You’re not, “…just asking questions.” Pretty much everything out of your keyboard in this thread has been an attack on Americans, in general, or individuals, in particular. This not only makes you a bigoted, intolerant wanker, it shows just how much of a troll you truly are. Frankly, you are also a bore, and virtually every post has been an attempt to elicit an escalating response. Some Americans don’t care about children, have colored necks and are somehow unenlightened for seeking to protect their Constitutional rights? That’s pretty pretentious on your part. Right on cue, though, you predictably bash everyone and everything that doesn’t agree with your narrow perspective. Your narrative and posts are about as thoughtful as a gaggle of thirteen-year-old girls at the mall. But, do keep it up, please. They’re actually quite amusing, and every time you flap your gums, you make my case for me. Thanks for that. CW
don't mention that they alienate themselves, they don't understand that term and too bloody right you are mate re the interfering bastards : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CIA_activities_in_Guatemala this is just one of their meddling done for the sole benefit of Eisenhower's shares he had in the banana industry And in the article it says the CIA released these documents in 1997 but I know for a fact I saw them on the internet before 1994 and when I told an American friend of mine she said they weren't there any more, .... surprise surprise, they needed time to whitewash the truth
Why do you think America is politically insane like places like Syria, Eqypt, Iran, etc.? That bit I do not understand. The concept of Australians EVER needing to rise up against their own government is just completely impossible to conceive. By this I mean we are not that fncked up, and I didn't think America was either. All this energy wasted by Americas, when if you all would just work together, government and people, your country would be utterly awesome, instead it is following the same path that England followed ~100 years ago and is now but an impotent version of it's previous self. Stop believing the BS that everybody is trying to stab (shoot) you in the back. What sad negative energy you are pumping in to your children ... this will take as many generations to solve as terrorists feeding American hate into their children. Heck lets face it you are all terrorists feeding American hate into your children! Pete
Moretti is our resident lefty and he cops a lot of flak from Aussies too, but don't worry, we don't all blame the USA for everything that's wrong in the world. Someone posted stats on land mines killing children a while back. I forgot to point out which country is the largest landmine manufacturer, whilst having predominantly socialist govts for the last 50 years, who happily sell them to tinpot dictatorships in Africa and similar regions. France, the champion of liberty, equality, fraternity. The weapons industry is Europe's dirty secret, it's a major part of their economy but you'd never know from the liberal media.
Speaking about the French...I see the Gerard Depardieu is copping flack for moving to Belgium to avoid paying over 70% in tax. http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/world/gerard-depardieu-departs-with-an-angry-shot/story-fnb64oi6-1226538634848 HE is the most famous French actor of his generation, a larger-than-life figure seen as the embodiment of his country's cultural aspirations. But Gerard Depardieu no longer wants to be French. In a fit of pique that reverberated across France, the actor says he is handing back his passport after being insulted by the "pathetic" French government. His announcement came after days of controversy over his decision to move to Belgium to escape the tax rises introduced by socialist President Francois Hollande. The star has applied for a Belgian passport. Depardieu, 63, had remained silent but when Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault described his purchase of a house in Nechin, a village just across the Belgian border, as "pathetic", he could contain himself no more. In an open letter to Mr Ayrault, Depardieu retorted: "Pathetic? Did you say pathetic? How pathetic of you. "I am giving my passport back to you and my social security entitlement. We no longer belong to the same country. I am a true European, a citizen of the world. "Unfortunately, there is nothing left for me here, but I will continue to love the French and these audiences with whom I have shared such emotions. I am leaving because you consider that success, creation, talent, in fact anything that is different, should be penalised." His letter raised the stakes in a debate over the departure of a series of French celebrities after Mr Hollande's election in May. Depardieu wrote: "I don't ask for approval but I could at least have respect. "I have never killed anyone, I don't think I've been unworthy, I've paid E145 million in taxes over the past 45 years and I employ 80 people in (my) companies." The actor said he would pay 85 per cent of his earnings to the French Inland Revenue in this year. France levies a wealth tax, under which he must pay to the government 1.8 per cent of the value of his assets, estimated at about E120m ($149m). Mr Hollande is also introducing a 75 per cent income tax rate on revenue over E1m a year, so there would be little prospect of Depardieu's bill diminishing if he stayed in France. Instead, he is selling his 20-room mansion in central Paris for an estimated E50m and moving into a drab home in Nechin. French Employment Minister Michel Sapin said the letter was a sign of "personal decline". Depardieu's letter concluded with a flourish worthy of The Count of Monte Cristo, the Alexandre Dumas novel in which he starred when it was turned into a movie. "Despite my excesses, my appetite, my love of life, I am a free being, Monsieur, and I am going to remain polite."
How bloody hard is it for some people to understand???? Disturbed people + access to guns = bad idea. Access to guns =/= freedom.
