Exactly, It's not supply but supply AND demand. GT4 has less of both. May change in the future, I dunno. I like the looks of it though and my appreciation has only grown from looking at the beautiful pictures on Fchat.
Restoration almost never makes financial sense. If G and B didn't print like madmen you wouldn't have anywhere near these prices. Noone can blow forever. Europe is not a trend. Europe is a comical diversion. I deal with Germans on a regular basis, that's the US of Europe. Sorry to say, child mentality prevails. An Uracco that was 35k 3 months ago is now 50k, 'cause it has TÜV. Thank God for the US, is all I have to say in that department.
Back about 27 yrs ago when I got my GT4, I spoke with a sharp F-car mechanic who told me his favorite Ferrari's to drive are the 308 GT4 and the 288 GTO. That's some pretty good company! I love my GT4, and see why there's a following for it. The gearbox has the solid and precise cone synchros matched up with the gate shifter, the handling, balance, sound. I haven't lost interest or regretted one day of ownership.
I, too, rolled my eyes at this. The insularity on here is sometimes depressing, especially since we discuss a thoroughbred European car.
Oh heck are you guys saying that the $46k purchase on mine and the subsequent upkeep and improvements will come to nothing and I won't be able to sell next year for $100k! It can't be true....all we get is a engaging, nice handling, V8 engined, late 70's classic with a slice of Bertone styling? Damn't back to that alchemy project again... ;-) Cars at this level (as a few have mentioned already) are not money spinners, lets all just be happy that the costs of upkeep usually balance out over a few years. Drive them, keep them and enjoy them. Hans what tires you running these days? Any suggestions?
Bridgestone Potenza RE 050A. I've had Pirelli P7000's on there by accident (painter switched my wheels with those of another customer) and scared the sh** out of myself. Absolute rubbish. LOVE the Bridgestones. But there must be 100 tire threads on this forum
Thanks, Im taking of the p7000 that I have on now and I knew you were a Bridgestone fan could not remember which model, thanks again. Mark
Up until the early 90's the GT4 shared the garage with a Shelby Cobra GT500. It was 1968 in powder blue. Now forgetting the values and the brutal acceleration of the Ford the GT4 won on every count , - cornering, breaking, controlled power slides that were void of nasty habits. Yea money wise we sold the silk purse, but as a drivers car a truely well cared for, ( strong engine) sorted GT4 is up there for the late 60's through to early 80's for sure I fact the GT4's top speed would have been higher I think as well and getting there with a lot less blast and bluster!
I wonder what would happen if this were to be reposted in the 360 section? ... there is no question in my mind gt4's are greatly enginered and designed; and are part of the amazing pedigree of Ferrari's. Really at the end of the day it is a Ferrari. As a design guy it was the one Ferrari that made sense then and now. Price will go up if demand and is there beyond us few odd ducks who one one. maybe the real question is if a 30k gt4 maintains it's "value" will a 360 drop below that in 10 years?
it's sort of the same thing, isn't it? the thing with a 308 is that maintenance and repair is relatively inexpensive. I can't see how a 360 will ever achieve that, so as 360s become cheaper, they won't be worth fixing and the value will plummet. I can't see that happening with a 308. Of course, I could be wrong......again.
What if GT4s do get worth more than 360s. Does that say something about the GT4 or about the 360? I think the original criticism the GT4 received in its day will still hamper it today. The design does not compare well with its relatives and even compared to the competition I would go for the Lamborghini 2+2 any day: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Obviously I arrive after the action. I will speak only for myself. I know 5 persons who bought cars between 40k$ and 70k$ here in Europe. As for me I have spent more for my GT4 than what a 360 costs today. the work alone cost me more than a 355. I don't care about the so-called official value. I think that the good cars are even scarcer than people who appreciate them. I have no regrets, and tons of fun. (Sorry, I did not find how to activate the BB code for images) Yves
