330 GT ANTENA PLACEMENT

What is the factory location of the antena on the 330 gt ? i have seen them front and back of the car, does anyone know or have pictures of the correct placement.

More than half of the GTEs still have the antenna installed on right front fender - including at least one car appearing in factory photos. This location was chosen for two reasons:

1) it is easy to bring in the cable to the center console
2) battery shelf provides perfectly positioned and easy to reach support for the base of the antenna.

Cars with radios have consoles.

 

On 275 GTB's when they had a radio it was hung under the dash. Looked cool.

antenna that tape to the glass are available... they become nearly invisible, no holes to drill etc etc... perform the same as those that are part of the windshield or rear glass...no need to install traditional telescoping metal antenna...

 

I went through the registry records where a radio was ordered as a factory option and that I have a picture showing the antenna location:
6745, right rear.
6937, right front.
7161, left rear. This car was the personal car of Enzo Ferrari and the picture is from 1965.
8783, left rear.
9235, left rear.
9405, right rear.

So, even Pininfarina was not consistent. My car (8755) has the antenna in the left rear fender, but as a 2HL car with the fuel filler on the left, it would be better placed on the right rear, where it could be installed much further forward and not as much in the way inside the trunk.

It's hard to tell if this one has it on the RF wing.
This is BTW a really pretty car, I haven't seen it up close.

So if the radio was dealer installed..........did they stock these consoles? Is there old stock somewhere, or am I missing something?

 

why admit to having radio ? on top of that trying to make do with a vintage radio that only offer crap sounds... there are radio suppliers that make vintage looking radios, if one insists ... my preference is to get a radio that is desaigned to be located from view and operated by a remote... no radio location problems, get useable radio with latest technology like Sat radio, Ipod, smartphone etc for unlimited programing anywhere...

 

No one really listens to these radios any more than they use the tool kit for repairs. They're just jewelry and conversation pieces. I have a dealer installed radio, it is made up of three pieces, the tuner, the amplifier and the speaker, together weighing about 15lbs and a useless ballast that gets in the way of your hand when trying to work on the wiring. But a nice period Becker can be the coup de gras.

I listened to mine on occasion, I thought it sounded cool having half transistors and half tubes.

Have you ever tried an old Blaupunkt? (No you haven't) - and if you ever do, try something like Stelvio Cipriani instead of Rammstein! You'll be amazed.

 

Glass man you are usually missing something if you ordered the car with a radio as an option it came with a console. Sometimes PF installed the radio sometimes the dealer did. Like everything on these cars nothing was that consistent.

As for listening to the radio, I think one if the hoariest Ferrari tropes is that line about only listening to the motor. Yeesh can there be more if a cliche in this world. I like music and I really love the way the 1964 Blauplunkt sounds. I use it all the time. I have an iPod cable in the DIN plug in the back and use the radio every time I'm in traffic and since I live in NYC that is not infrequently.
