I must say these pictures look really good and much better than the original post that started this thread. The fact that you can see "a teaser" of the intake manifold coupled with well arranged carbon parts makes the window attractive. Well done! It is not easy to achieve a "change of mind" on Fchat!
That's exactly where it goes. If you order Sat/Nav or Satellite Radio in the US, you get this box. The antenna goes through a hole in the rear hood and appears on the top side as a flat cover. I would say a lot of cars were shipped with Sat/Nav. And, the box is screwed up under and to the rear deck. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I am guessing it was an option since most of them don't have it. A dozen of individual throttle velocity stacks sure deserve a clear window.
Richard: Capristo is posting here for information and to gauge the market. Now, I could say nothing and he could learn nothing. Or, I and others could tell him something and he could learn from it. Which would you prefer?
I've got the original bonnet, I order the rest of the parts, and then we'll see where they fit. you can make a great photo of the underside? you know what it looks like under the black cover? Antonio
I don't know what the cover looks like under but it's flush against the top metal cover. I can take better pictures this weekend when I get back to my home or maybe someone here can do it before then. It's just a simple injection molded black plastic box screwed under the deck with the antenna sticking up through the hole and covered with a paint matching plastic part. I don't know how difficult it is to move it to another location but I think it would be a pain. Maybe you can make a new box for the electonics in CF and antenna cover that would look better and just replace the electronics inside. But, it would for sure cover up the intake plenum if its in the same location. Then again, you have to worry about the heat to protect the electronics and the CF.
in this moment, I have no idea. the part from the bottom looks great .. you can not just hide .... I'm trying to get spare parts catalog, perhaps you can see more. Antonio
Hey! You're leaning! Not every negative comment is a bad one. Only from an honest discussion can we learn. Sugar coating only fools people into a false sense of security. I'd much rather hear bad criticism than good. At least I know what's wrong and what needs to be corrected or made better. I don't like the look of this. Others do. Antonio learns from that. If he was not interested, he wouldn't bother asking us in the first place.
I would say if you can find a new location for this box that is not in the window, that would be your best selling point. How this is done I do not know. But, I think it should be possible as it's just connected by wires. To me Ferrari the box put it here because it was easy and it was a good location for the antenna to get a signal. It's just cheap plastic because no one looks at it. In fact, a CF box to replace this cheap one might be another good product to look at.
Mayor, I am of the opinion that it is nice to hear nice words, but criticism makes us better, I am grateful for your open mind .... Of course I would be happy even if you now find nicer than the first drawings. or is still ugly? :-(
It is never ugly, is just some people would prefer to be able to see the whole engine to find this meaningful. But what you did is great, you made the best of what is possible. Image Unavailable, Please Login
For me, the clear cover is a rather old cliche' now. It's time to move on to the next step. I find it even worse that some people retro fit them on Testarossa's and such. What you've created is not ugly. It's just rather pointless in my opinion. I feel that the Mc 12c is the worst offender of this. You can't see anything under the cover but more plastic covers in the 12c. To add insult to injury, McLaren added additional ugly cut lines in the 12c spider roof just so they can get an even smaller window above the engine to see -- absolutely nothing worthwhile. I like the glass under the 458 coupe because you can see the engine (well, at least the intake plenum). But, to see some air intake boxes doesn't thrill me enough to want to have it. I think that was Ferrari's decision also. The glass area is becoming a kind of design joke. I think the designers went back to the vents of the 246 Dino (and perhaps the 355) for inspiration. Having had a 246 Dino in the past, I find this appealing. But, it's just one man's opinion. Obviously, others like it very much. What you've created is not ugly. In fact, it's an excellent design attempt doing the best of what you have to work with. I just don't see the need. It seems like an awful lot of work and money just to see the air filter box and part of a plenum. I will say one thing though. I love the CF parts under the hood you have on that photo car. The Ferrari plastic parts in the engine compartment are very cheap looking. It's a little embarrassing to open the hood and show people when it looks like a Honda Civic under there.
Something like that. But, the antenna would have to be exposed above it. I'll look at mine in more detail this weekend. If anyone has any pics of their sat nav box, please post them.
The Mayor, please don't be Condesending, I'm a team worker. just follow 360/430 Chat, WE CAN ALL DO MORE TOGETHER
Richard: If maybe you didn't post all these negative 458 posts and comments (even in the 430 section), maybe we would give you a little more of a break. We know you like your Scud. That's fine. We don't post anti-Scud posts here. We don't thumb our noses in the F430 section about how much better our cars are. We don't see why others would want to post anti-458 posts all the time either. The 458 is far from perfect. We pick it apart all the time. But, as owners, I think we have that right as long as it's based on honesty. And I think others who just want to stir up trouble for their own amusement are wrong.
