I'm going to a family event on Saturday and my mom has asked me to bring something so I'm going to bring some over-roasted sweet potatoes based off a recipe I found online. I made it a few weeks ago to rave reviews, although I felt there was way too much ginger in the recipe.

My question is, I was thinking about soaking the sweet potatoes (after they've been peeled and cut up) in egg nog for a short period of time. I thought it would add an interesting dynamic to the flavor.

Would this be doable or would it make the sweet potatoes too mushy or otherwise?

They are to dense to soak up any flavor. Try rubbing them in egg nog spice if you can find it.

you could cook them in the egg nog.. it will come out like custard. the starch of the potatoes will make sure the mixture is thick.

Wrap them around marshmallows and then bake it.

    Yum!

Do you have a recipe for that? Sounds interesting.

    Might make it for Xmas.

I can see adding the egg nog after cooking, but I don't think actually cooking them in the nog will do much. It would curdle unless over a double boiler and paying constant attention.

no not really. assuming the potatoes are already cooked - roasted... all you really would be doing is layering them in some custard - egg nog...

you could mix some whisky with the eggnog and that with the sweet potatoes could be good.

dont really have a recipe... but from the post i would recommend:

    yams - sweetpotatoes
olive oil - rub the poatoes with the oil, and roast in oven at 350F till they are done - fork comes out clean.

cool the potatoes: and slice skin on or off your choice

mix 2 cups egg nogg, with 2 eggs, 1/2 cream

    nutmeg, cinnamon etc..
    salt & pepper
maybe some brown sugar if you like it sweet.

layer the cut potatoes in a shallow buttered baking dish - or like a quiche dish
then pour over the mixture till it is about 1/4 inch off the top of the dish

bake in 350F oven for about 30 min? or until custard is set. serve like quiche.

if you want it to be fancy - you could spread the top with some brown sugar and torch it like cream brulee...
