I think Smiles is right in his suggestion that Murcielago should have a lisped second syllable. You get: MOOR-THEEYAY-LAGO. The reason for this (as suggested by Testacojones (and pronounce that in Castillian!)) is that Castillian Spanish -equivalent to the Queen's or Oxford English in the UK- nearly always pronounces the 'c' as a 'the' is words where Latin American Spanish and also Catalan Spanish (Barcelona) use a hard 'c'.

Assuming the Italians wished to use the Spanish for 'bat', they would naturally have Spain in mind and not, say, Argentina or Peru; therefore, whatever Italians might do with the word, the Castillian pronounciation would be a the basic, correct, form.

This topic has succeeded in making me even more confused. Please refrain from punching me when I mispronounce the name of your automobile. :)

You know, the funny thing about pronunciation of the numerically named vehicles is that, much of the time, the pronunciation segregates the two numbers that should stay together, and aggregates numbers that should be separate. For example "328" represents a 3.2 liter 8-cylinder engine, so you might think it would be three-two-eight (i.e., keep the three-two displacement figures together, with the eight at the end), not three twenty-eight (i.e., split the displacement into two pieces and merge the second part with the number of cylinders), but I always hear the latter. Same with 348, 355, and probably others (at least the 512 works out okay).

Maybe based on this I should rethink how I pronounce the names of these vehicles? Or move someplace where pronunciation already reflects this? (As long as they don't require front plates!)

I'm resurrecting this old thread from the past.
Since it is full of good pronunciation advice, I figure it is better to add on here than create yet another "How to pronounce ..." thread.

How does one correctly pronounce "Bertone"?
(The last name of the famous Italian car designer Giuseppe "Nuccio" Bertone.)

    Is it:
    Brrr-tone
    Brrr-tony
    Brrr-tone-A
    Bear-tone-A
    ?

    Thanks.

In my 12 years of owning the 328, FCA, FChat etc I have never heard it pronounced anything but 3-28. It may be local though, there were about 6 of us in DFW that bought our 328's similar times and started hanging out together... Tillman, jimpo1, bobd etc.

are you sure? that makes no sense, doesn't sound anything close to right, for a few of those that makes it a 4 digit model name.

    Thanks!

So, none of my choices in the earlier post were right.
In the video, he pronounces Bertone like "Bear-toe-knee" with the emphasis on the 1st syllable, so "BEAR-toe-knee".

I've adapted some of the European pronunciations (at least what I think are European).

    I always say Three-oh-eight or Three-five-five, Four-thirty, Four-five-eight, Five-nine-nine, (Two-fifty) etc.

I've always wondered if it's Five-one-two/six-one-two or five-twelve/six-twelve. I usually use the former on that one.

    As for names, I say Mo-den-uh, Scu-de-ree-uh, Scal-ee-et-ee, etc.

As a side-note, I say Me-your-uh for the Miura, Mur-chee-lago for the Murcie and I still haven't figured the Gallardo out.

Yes, the Lamborghini car names are tough to pronounce "correctly" since they are mostly Spanish bullfighting names that sound very different if pronounced using Castillian Spanish or Italian accents.

For example, Murcielago would be "mur-thee-a-log-o" in Castillian, true?

When I took a factory tour last year the guide did refer to the 355 as the 3-5-5...Clarkson always referred to his as a 3-5-5 too.

Guess we know three hundred fifty five is incorrect, but I hear 3-55 and 3-5-5 all the time.

Edit: This came up in a search, didn't notice it was a little old folks.
