I totally agree, that's the reason why I choosen my 25th Anniversary in that color, even if it was a respray... I missed my ex #12432 Image Unavailable, Please Login
This sounds very interesting, what a classic idea, thanks Joe! I can't wait to view the material you have aquired over the years!! (ps. coming up on the 25th anni. of the 25th.)
Hi Gents (and ladies?) Sam from Sydney, Australia. This is my favourite thread Kimbo, wasnt that green car the one that Peter Robinson famously crashed and took out the front end/spoiler on that test? There is another drive report with the green and newer black LP400S, that has photos of the mishap. Am trying to find it. I think it was in Sports Car World? It is rather funny (not).. poor Robbo crashed a yellow Diablo on test in Italy years later! Cheers, Sam
If it helps you pin it down, both "Wheels" and "Modern Motor" featured those Countachs in their November 1981 issues.
LP400S x 2 from the Wheels road test While the more common colours black/red/white etc will always look great the more uncommon ones really look interesting, especially this metallic green with gold wheels. The second scan does no justice to the orginal photo! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Indeed the 25th Anniversario represents the benchmark of the first half of Lamborghini's entire history, and, it was produced by a company (Chrysler) who first brought in quality-control, launched the Diablo, and paved the way for the second half of Lamborghini's history. So, I have always thought it was a benchmark car. Lets see if I can find my material first!
These photos are from a Modern Motor article "Heat Seeker", Dec 89. Apologies gents for not being up to date with some recent posts (groan!) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks Jono. I think this particular story with the crash photos was in Wheels' Yearbook, written by Bob Murray if I remember correctly. I've looked everywhere, cant find it. I think I may have thrown it out! The story was actually not very favourable at all ... which explains that! And I guess them going off the road in an $185K car (1981) explains the tone of the report! I also vaguely remember reading somewhere Wheels insurance premiums went up 4-fold the following year.. Sam
Sam, Excellent pics. Thanks. I've got some somewhere of the Fosters Aussie GP Countach that was first prize in a Fosters competition(Colour was unique,Fosters blue).....needless to say I didn't win it,but drank shiploads of Fosters that year!!! Winner elected to take cash instead and car ended up for sale with Bob Jane in Melbourne IIRC......sadly I've heard car now resides in Sydney but has been painted red??? See if I can find the pics!!! Kimbo,
How about this beauty Joe? I took these photos in the early 90's, at an annual Ferrari Register Track Day, Oran Park Raceway, outer Sydney. Immaculate.. back then... Wonder where it is now. I have more photos from other old motor shows/Lamborghini events days. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The original owner Chris O blew the motor on one of those track days. The car sat at the motoring museum in Pyrmont for many years until the current owner rebuilt the engine and put it all together again. Still in Sydney.
Thanks for those pictures, Sam, much appreciated! While I could never even consider doing something like that to a Countach now, back then as a teenager, I was deeply impressed by it...
Ah yes, "Blue Thunder" it think it was called at the time? It's mentioned here (with a couple of pictures), on page 656, after it had been repainted red.
As promised, some pics of the "Fosters" Countach in it's original colour! I have had it confirmed that the car is now red and even the blue interior was dyed as well.....car is now apparently in "sad" condition in Sydney but has not been seen in many years. Joe or the other experts.....was this a factory colour or as I suspect a special "one off" paint job? It certainly wasn't a 'one-off', but it was a rare color for a Countach. Again, shame its been repainted into some shade of red.
Here are some shots I took of the car at a Ferrari club trackday at Winton 1982. Last picture is another Countach that was parked in the car park on the same day. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
You have to admit, you don't very often see a Lambo so filthy... But on the other hand, at it proves that car was being used as intended!
It was used all right. Every motoring Journo in Australia drove it and it was also a demo car at the Victorian dealer.
I believe it's an LP400 that got the flairs and wing "upgrade" that was popular at the time. As I recall there were a few cars that were modified like this locally. It cost a fortune too.
