Very sad state indeed :( Given current Indy prices, I suppose it will became a parts car....

However, it can't be a 1967 model since Indy production started in 1969. Also, it has the late style dashboard, so it's likely to be a 1970s car.

A very nice parts car or ... next stop Gullwing motors ... light restoration.

    How sad indeed.

Sorry, I don't know much about the marque from this period so I went with Copart's year. That said, they didn't know the model so it is a "Maserati Maserati".

MODS: Please change title to read '72 Maserati Indy 4700 America on Copart...possible Sandy victim. TIA.

Not the first time they've gotten things wrong; there is a Ferrari 360 labeled as a "Mondial", http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=141619530&postcount=85. Oops.

I could be wrong but weren't all Indy "America" 4.9? The car appears to be a euro spec.

With those bumper things and rocker switches on the dash? You could be right, though. It does have the small front-side turn signal lights and the yellow lens rear turn signal lights.

Bid is $2550 as of December 30 8:00 PM USA east coast time.

A year from now about the only thing salvageable will be the tires, the rest of the will dissolve from the inside out. Coparts now as many Italian & German cars they inherited from insurance companies.

Do you think there might be some hidden rust?

    That thing is scary.

The funny thing is that I wanted one of these back in '75. I sat in one and was offered it. But it was a world away. The desire has never left though. Now, when I look at these cars, it's like a horror story that you can't look away from.

You could probably never get the salt out from all the places like where welds have been made etc.

IMHO it needs to be disassembled and washed asap and the parts sold off.

+1. It also would have been better off sitting someplace warmer than an open lot upstate NY with sub-freezing temperatures at night for a few months now.

Bid is at $5100. They should take it. Maybe if they are using the two Indys at GWMC as metrics -- they think it's worth $13K?

The Ebay advert's wording indicates that the vendor knows nothing about it. Also, it says the car will be moved to Louisiana in a few days. So that should cost another $2K. Storage $100 per month. It does not make sense.

It's a shame. Must have been a great car three months ago.

    Ebay:
1967 Maserati Indy America 4700. Chance of a lifetime to own a rare piece of history. This is a complete example suffered water damage. Will need to be taken apart and cleaned. We can assist in international shipping but buyer pays all shipping costs. We can post on truckstop.com for US delivery, but buyer pays all shipping. What you see is what you get. Sold as is where is purchased from Insurance Auction. I have no other photos, sold on the photos shown. No further information on condition of vehicle is available other than photos. Time is of the essence, must be paid for within 72 hours (on business days). No loans, trades or checking with the old lady. Cash on hand (bank wire), or gold coins only. Once you pay for vehicle, it can be picked up from insurance storage yard in Marlboro NY. (or we can post the load for it to be delivered) Good luck bidding. Sold on New York registration. Will be moved to Louisiana in a few days, so if you snooze you lose.

    Here's the link, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Maserati-Other-4-/130830269607?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item1e76177ca7#ht_500wt_1182.

Wow, small world that it's coming to LA as I'm in the New Orleans area. I suspect it's going to Baton Rouge b/c the seller also shows a Diablo and Corvette, both in BR.

Interesting too that the ad states it was "purchased from Insurance Auction" when Copart (not IAAI) had the listing I posted. I wonder if that is a typo.

FWIW, I asked in the Louisiana forum if the seller is on FChat, http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=142010921#post142010921, TBD.

I wonder how many people will get fleeced by this car thinking they're getting a bargain?

Once it's minimally cleaned up, sand removed, some soon to be poorer SOB might take a plunge ...

There are a lot of cars like this around here now. They're all just scrap for the most part now.

    Just look at this list!
    http://www.copart.com/c2/car_auction_search_results.html?_eventId=applyMainFilter&execution=e6s2&_lastAction=lotCompare&listType=&highlightedLotId=0&currentPage=0&currentPageSet=0&sortColumn=YEAR&ascending=true&showImage=true&freshRequired=true&eventId=&searchType=ON_SALE_NOW&omniSorting=&omniSortZipClicked=&subfilterForceRequery=false&subfilterYear=&subfilterMake=&subfilterModel=&subfilterFacility=&subfilterSaleDate=&subfilterStateType=&subfilterPrimaryDamage=&resetChosenFilters=&returnPage=SEARCH_RESULTS&mainFilterSelect=N&filterZipCode=

I used have 39 Plymouth that I loved so this one hurts for me. It looks like a decent driver and hard to see any damage. Just look at where the auction yard is. You get the idea ...

Seller skipped posting the interior photos. Some flood damaged cars still have nice looking interiors but this poor Indy looks like it was deep underwater for several days.

The car sold Thursday 01/03/2013 for $9,600. subject to vendor approval to someone in New Hampshire.

The seller on Ebay is definitely the same person that deals very heavily with the salvaged Lambos. Look at the bottom in the Q and A section where it says Murcielago8898. That is his other Ebay user name.

Sad to see this car in this state. From the looks of the body/paint and interior, the car looked like it was a very nice example before Mother Nature took her toll on it. Would be nice to see it restored, but sadly it will most likely be turned into parts. :(

I suspect the 1/3 date is when the ebay seller bought the car; might have used a broker or dealer in New Hampshire for the transaction.

I watched the auction on line and the preliminary bidding (which ends one hour before the actual auction) had reached $7200. Once the auction started it went fast and a battle quickly developed with a buyer in Texas and another in New Hampshire slugging it out. Yes either or both of these buyers could have been a brokers.

As well as these cars are made with rust prevention why the rush to assume salt water will eat the car alive ?
