More like the way GM works AGAINST the Corvette.
Then how a few dedicated employees did an 'end run' on the company policies which mostly created endless obstacles for the success of the C5 program...
Ironically it was more stringent 1997 safety standards that forced through the program for a new Corvette design.

I object to the negative characterization that the author made on Chuck Jordan. The author had become too close to the day-to-day studio efforts instead of understanding what Jordan was trying to achieve.

Jeff, I agree with you on that as well, I would like to know what JM thinks about this. I met the Author in person back before the C5 debuted, and he was a very nice man, unfortunately, he passed away a short time later from Cancer.

The final car was allegedly an amalgamation of 3 different proposals that had been clinic'd. This was Chairman P&G's directive to clinic a new Corvette - first time EVER in the history of any Corvette. Jordan wanted a design that was worthy to his legacy but he lost that battle and the battle to have his choice of successor.

Jeff, based on hindsight, your absolutely correct, I still think the C5 (NO DISRESPECT TO OWNERS) was a low point in Corvette styling compared to what came before it and after it.

In general, I agree; but the C5 Z (FRC) IMHO is a huge change to the styling of the base vette.

I'm REALLY looking forward to some post introduction releases :)

You pretty much have it nailed.
    Don't forget,during the development of the C5,the board fired B. Stemple,CEO & L. Reuss,the Pres.,and C. Jordan was on the verge of retiring.
The California Stingray III was designed in the late '80's early '90's in SoCal.That car was used to influence the design of the upcoming C5.
    C. Jordan had a "competition" between the Ca Stingray III,J.Cafaro's Chev.III studio proposal, and T.Peter's Adv Design proposal.I'm not sure that I would "blame" the final design on the clinic process however. W. Cherry was VP after Jordan, and the car had influences from the Stingray III, and Cafaro's car.All the delays due to the corporation's difficulties didn't help matters at all.

    John,

Mark was the one that told me of the clinic. As he said (some years back) Chairman P&G dictated that the Corvette run through the clinic process with 3 different models. In the end a (soap) camel was created with the the side of one, the front of another and the tail of the remaining one. This may have happened after Chuck's retirement.

After knowing of this story then looking at the car I have always seen that there is disunity the design from the different angles.

Assumed that there would be a bias in the book, it remains the best insight into the car, company and process of creating a new Corvette.

Really wish another book was available for the subsequent generations.

Interesting opinions on C5 styling. I've got C6 cars but still love the C5 with the exception of the FRC. The C5 race cars are stunning designs.

The C7 will be a very capable car but after seeing the drawings I would bet that the C6 retains a sweet spot with regard to design for some time to come.

Isaac's dash image, reminds me of my 90 C4 Corvettes interior. I still prefer the C4 interior as far as seating position and ergonomics (although material quality was questionable) for its time over the C5 and C6. You sat in the C4, you sit on the C5 and C6.

Drove an 1987 convertible for a while and you were sort of hunkered down in that one. The new Camaro is an entirely different feeling; like looking out of a 'pill box' by comparison.

    Beyonce? Bruce yes, Beyonce no.

FAIL. Ferrari auctioned off a car to help the hurricane victims. Chevy could have displayed the car at the start of the game (coin toss?), set up an 800 number donation line, close the lines at the end of the game and randomly select a winner, put his/her name on tv, etc. My 2 cents.....
