I owned #27 as a new car, but it wasn't even delivered & registered till 1997. Since I sold it in 1998 it has passed through quite a few hands and I lost track of it.
And that's only because I passed on it in January 96 since Nelson could not figure out how to install power windows later figured it out at the factory and bought #10 Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just out of interest, if a car is made in 1994 or 1995 as I believe all SE30s were, if it wasn't registered until say 1997, is it regarded as a 1994/5 car or a 1997 car?
Thank you Joe! Next question - if there were 25 made available in the states, how is this #27? Or am I misunderstanding the numbering? The windows are a true turn off.
The vehicle's VIN identifies the year of manufacture and that is the sole basis for determination of a vehicle's "model year" (I believe this is true anywhere in the world where a VIN is used that includes the year of manufacture designation).
Cars #1, #21, #23, were Euro/Japan cars http://www.lp112.com/Lamborghini/Results.asp?Model=Diablo&Version=SE30 any car listed with "Alcantara" interior was not for built for the USA (a few had Alcantara interiors installed after production but that's not what I refer to here) The windows were designed for light weight (no window channel, no lift motors, no wiring, etc), racing was the thought but I live in Texas and really need windows that go down. If I lived in, say, Sweden, I might not have cared as much.
i have an original SE30 right small glass i think these are no longer available from factory Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Very interesting post indeed. Jota option at GBP 16327.00....pretty much "dough" even back then (1994). I have seen an ad for white German SV with factory roll bar. Think it was one of four with that option. Never seen a SE with the roll bar option.
It's a very rare option, I only know of two SE that have it. One of them is the yellow Jota that is in the collection of Bob Forstner. It might be explained by the fact that this car was originally made for South Africa to participate in racing (it never did). Other SE that have a roll-cage are the three Japanese P-series cars. Road & Track Editor once drove a RHD Yellow Diablo SE Jota with roll-bar. I guess it was that one. I thought it was supposed to be sent to the owner in Indonesia, not South Africa.
Why are the SE30 so cheap? They are rare and sufficiently different than other Diablos (Much lighter..). They are also a real monster to drive and remind me of an F40 in that they are very raw, mechanical and basic. I understand it is not what everyone wants, but IMO they should easily command $200k-$250k.
I think the few real good ones do. It is just that the ones that are for sale are mostly 'stories' cars.
I think the ones which sell well are well-maintained with a well-regarded provenance. I have seen SE30s in both the USA & Europe for sale for literally years. Another factor with the SE30 is that the raw & basic nature that Andrew speaks of also means the fit & finish in many of the cars is quite disappointing to the uninitiated, and I think this also hampers sales IMO.
I RECENTLY FOUND SOME PICTURES I TOOK BACK IN 2008 OF A GERMAN SE30 MODDED WITH A BLOWER FROM NEW. NOTE THE 400 KPH SPEEDO. NOT THE PURPLE 30 COLOR - WAS SUPPOSED TO TEST DRIVE THAT DAY BUT IT WAS RAINING. IT SOLD AFTER A FEW YEARS. ACCORDING TO THE OWNER AT THAT TIME IT WAS BETTER THAN A JOTA.
I know that car and the owner who bought the car 2008. I drove it also it was very fast like a punch but it had many problems because of head gasket. Now the car is already for sale. It has the Mclaren F1 Brake System installed. Regards
Not surprised if there are chronic engine problems. Very few modified engines remain reliable. That is why the most original examples keep the highest market value.
