I finally gave up on trying to have one car that does everything. I bought a Boxster S six-speed for those times when I feel like rowing through the gears. It's just about as much fun to drive as the 458, for entirely different reasons. My first car had a manual transmission (1963 Corvair Monza 4-speed), and there will forever be a place for the third pedal in my little fleet. The 458 is a dream as is, DCT and all. It's a different and exhilarating driving experience.

Heck, keep the options list short, and you can have both for the price of one.

That's a great idea... And that's what most people do if they want manual gearbox...

But for me, I would want my most exotic car to be manual...

See the link below about Lewis Hamilton's choice of supercar : Pagani Zonda 760 manual
Apparently his company car is paddle shift... So his FUN car is manual !!!

You never read 29K of my posts! :)

I started this discussion because I think the DCT has some terrific assets (and yes, even McLaren and Mercedes agrees) that never really get discussed here.

Yet, there's a ton of discussion in this forum about how great manuals are and how Ferrari is "walking away" from enthusiasts and how people will "never buy another one again" and the reason for this decision is "lazy drivers who don't know how to drive".

I just thought it was time to speak up for what is a great package for once. I'm tired of those of us who like it being a punching bag.

Are you expecting some sort of accolade or if I just vote for you in the next election is that enough. ;)

Nah. Getting drunk with showgirls is enough to get elected Mayor in this town. I don't need any Fchat support. :)

    F430 fastest shift time is 150ms (0.15s) not 15ms (0.015ms).
    CS is also 150ms (0.15s).
Scud and GTO are both 60ms (0.06s).

Not self appointed? Really? I remember the thread where you announced your name change. I recall you saying that you had to PM RL to make the change. I tried a search of the last 250 threads you started (which only took me to July of this year) and was unable to find it.

Anyway, not meant as an attack, but I'm pretty sure you appointed yourself "TheMayor" of FerrariChat. That being said Bob, you've done a lot of great things for the community in the last few years. I'm just not a fan of the title...

Ask Jedi and Stephanie how the name came about.

Actually, I changed it because with my old user name I got tons of PMs asking if I was the lead singer of Boston believe it or not. Too bad they never used Wikipedia because he's been dead for years!!!

Can we get back to my original post? I still believe what I said there was correct. There's nothing wrong in liking the current engineering format and I'm tired of people saying what we like is wrong while we say liking both for their own reasons is ok.

Google search of Bdelp yeilds almost nothing from Boston. But whatever. Carry on.

    If I could afford a 458, I'd buy a Carb'd 512, another 355 and a 6 speed 575. Guess I'm just old school, even if I'm 34

Try Brad Delp. See what google says now.

I'll make it easy for ya.

Thanks for the leap of faith.... Whatever.

I got all these PMs asking if he was me, if I was a fan, if I had been in the band, if I had seen them play live, etc etc. I got tired of disappointing people. :). I wish I had his talent.

As I said before I think my next car will be a Boxer. So, we are not so different.

Thanks. Typo in the MT article but they must mean their shifts in the FGT ranged 160-290 ms while F430 F1 was 210-290 ms.

What is there to get back to, exactly? You didn't pose any real question for debate. You just complained about other people. I don't see anybody hanging around in this thread saying the DCT makes the 458 crap or that DCT drivers are sissies. You say you like 3 pedals but that they are not for today's world. Do you want to debate that? If not, then what. Are you expecting the people you have labelled whiners to say sorry MAYOR please don't throw us in the fchat town jail. :)

Your name is Bob. Your user name before was BDelp. Your profile clearly says that your name is Bob. You're telling me that you got so many PMs asking if you were Brad Delp that you had to change your name?

    Please.

Did you actually read the post or do you like just to fight?

If you want a serious discussion, please continue. If you just want to fight with someone, your Xbox is waiting. I'm sure there's an alien robot you can blow up somewhere in cyberspace.

There's your original post. Where is the request for any debate? You even say " There. The end." Like a little kid would say. Rather than asking for counter opinions. So I ask you again what exactly do you want to debate? Do you even have an answer?

Actually Kai I'm sitting in my HK showroom on a Sunday afternoon selling my products to giant countries like Lithuania and Slovenia ---and bored to death. :). Jerry supposed to stop by on Tuesday so I have something to look forward to. :).

This strange conversation here is kinda funny on a dull afternoon.

Hey do me a favor. Explain The Mayor bit. Some here don't believe much of what I say. Maybe they will listen to you and we can stop whining about my user name and talk more about what we like and don't like about cars. :)

Well, Jedi and Stephanie can tell the story much better but it started with Bob's generosity and time to set up the first (AFAIK) Fchat get together in Vegas...

It was so epic (especially since Jerry, Jedi, Stephanie and I were there too... :)) that another epic meeting took place coupled with Bob's ongoing hospitality in Vegas for other fchatters that we discussed in the subscribed section to anoint Bob as the official mayor of Vegas.

    The rest is history...

You´re taking for granted a few things. First, you think everybody enjoys driving a three pedal car, and that paddles are just for the performance and comfort. Many people like the race car feel of the paddles.

Then, you have to consider that even bad and old paddle shifts are way faster than the vast majority of drivers with a stick shift.

And finally, there are old cars with rude and slow manual gearboxes and heavy clutch pedals, etc... And still are driven and loved.

Those are all good points that I agree with and I am not taking them for granted. Simply betting that despite those, there are many people that will prefer the 3 pedal when it comes to picking up the car a few years down the road for their collection and to enjoy once or twice a month. I think the 575 is a good example. Time and time again I read in the 550/575 section that the original F1 transmission, while the overwhelming favorite choice when new, is less desirable now for guys looking to buy one of these cars. For driving pleasure not rarity.

Try the R8. I defy anyone who knows how to use a manual to knowingly choose their paddles over a clutch pedal. My point is that driving pleasure goes downhill quickly with a bad paddle shifter. Not all of them are superb like the 458.
