Car shut of and Won't Start

What symptoms can you have from a failed alarm battery?? Will the alarm still sound (mine does)? Will you still be able to arm and disarm the car (mine does with the proper beeps)? Could everything seem normal, but when disarming, the car won't start as if it's still armed (this is happening to me)?

This morning, I started the car an let it warm up. I backed out of my garage, and coincidentally, when I pressed the button to close my garage door, the car shut off at the exact same moment. I tried to restart, but it just turns over. I tried to arm and disarm, but for a while it wouldn't arm... just lock the doors for a second then unlock the doors with 3 beeps. A few times after the 3 beeps, the alarm would set off, but not with either door, but rather with just one of the doors.

My Ferraris have such complex issues sometimes, I've become conditioned to NOT check the simplest of possibilities.

Blown 15a fuel pump fuse :/

 

So now the question is . . . why did the fuel pump fuse blow?

We'll see how long it lasts. I've just come back from a 2 hour joy ride. So far so good.

 

I'm betting that you are looking at a failure in the fuel pump circuit of the fusebox.

 

The fuse had a very tarnished look. That white, powdered look, as if it had been exposed to the elements. No other fuse in the box looks this way. What that means, I don't know, but like I said... we'll see.

If it happens again, at least I know where to start now.

Yep, and fuses don't last forever, heat/cool cycles take their toll. I hope all stays well.

 

I came across this thread while doing a bit of investigative work on why my car died 150 miles into its maiden voyage from Charlotte back to its new home in Atlanta. I am pretty sure that the car referenced in this thread is the car I purchased from FCI and it seems more than coincidental since my problem is most likely fuel related.

It is at FoA now and will be diagnosed tomorrow or Tuesday. I checked the fuses after it died and removed each one to make sure that they weren't loose and they seemed fine (but on the side of a busy highway I could have missed a bad fuse). Is it common for the connection to the fuse box to go bad? If its the fuel pump circuit is it difficult to replace? Any other ideas?

 

Is it Fiorano Rosso in color? Newly upholstered dash? Fabspeed headers, y-pipe, and Nouvalari cats and exhaust? If so, I'm the previous owner.

This is the first thing that had "ever" gone wrong with this F355 (my second F355), aside from a blown-out header gasket due to the Fabspeed gaskets being used rather than the OEM gaskets that I asked the installer to use. The header gaskets were recently replaced with the Ferrari OEM style gaskets.

As for the fuel issue, I'd hoped that this was just a blown fuse as sometimes fuses blow. I drove it daily for two weeks after changing the fuse. All was normal, so I thought it was just one of those things that happens periodically.... causing the occasional blown fuse. If it just shut off on you without any prior symptoms, it's that same 15a fuse. But now that it has happened again (2nd time), I now know that there's some developing issue causing the fuse to blow.

I'm not looking at my PDF manual right now (I had to download the manual because every used Ferrari I've purchased has never had the manuals), but if memory serves me right, the fuse you want is a blue 15a fuse, second row, far left.

I told FCI that the car has been solid for me. No issue other than that fuse, which is more than I can say for my 612, and F355 F1 that I used to have. Not even a check engine light other than when I'd swap in test-pipes to run the car at Road Atlanta. I even had FCI to run diagnostics/PPI before taking it as a trade, but I don't know how good they are at that considering my first F355 from them was a lemon... the F1 system from day one would overheat in stop and go traffic, dropping to neutral and leaving me stranded every time (you'll find a ton of posts on FChat pertaining to that car and all the problems it had).

I hope this helps, and glad to know I can keep in touch with the new owner. I'm sure the car should be reliable for you after pinpointing this issue, based on my experience with the car. I have a Challenge grill for the car if you choose you'd like that upgrade. I also have a set of new, never used 360 Challenge rims and a set of Toyo competition tires that I intended to use on it at the track, but didn't once I decided to get a 599.

Oh. And PLEASE never mention out here what you paid for the car! It could upset the both of us, knowing how little FCI paid for it vs what you may have paid. You may feel you paid too much and I'll feel that based on the sale price, that I wasn't paid enough... if we shared each other's numbers

Editing to add the fuse box diagram. Position 21 is the fuel pump fuse. Position 30 is the injection ecu fuse. Position 21 is the fuse I replaced and fixed my problem.

Yes, yes and yes -- I am the new owner and despite the problem on the drive back I love the car. Jarod at the independent shop in Charlotte did the PPI and only identified small things which I will address. Apart from the phantom in the fuel system the car runs really strong, sounds great and is better looking than a room full of SI swimsuit models.

The fix should be relatively simple but then again finding the source of electronic gremlins can be a pain. It could have been worse -- luckily I was able to get it over to the shoulder quickly as it died and didn't get hemmed in the left lane by a tractor trailer. That really would have been scary! We did check the fuses and they seemed ok but again we could have missed a bad fuse given the circumstances. But as you point out the problem is what is causing the fuse to blow.

I am interested in the Challenge grill -- can you PM me? Also, I assume that the inner fender liner in the boot is to replace the damaged left rear one? As to your point about the price, all I can say is that the car was in high demand!

As a side note I am a Gamecock from many moons ago and to get to Columbia periodically. Maybe we can catch up sometime if schedules permit.
