Well, my US 1990 was put on the scale before hoping in its container. It had a 1/4 of a gas tank, all other fluids, and it registered at a little over 3700lb... It could use a little diet... Although exercise doesn't seem to work so far! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Good post, I had always guessed it was somewhere around 3600lbs, wasn't expecting 3700lbs though! I believe 512 Boxers are something like 3400-3500lbs whilst the earliest 365s are maybe 100lbs lighter at best, but even that's a stretch IMO. Euro steel 308s in the day with 1/4 tank weighed around 2900lbs. The Boxer is a bit bigger and the drivetrain a good bit heavier, so 400-500lbs heavier would make sense compared to an equivalent year 308. Testarossa's were even more gussied up with more 'stuff' in general (and power!) so I supposed 3700lbs makes sense. Any idea what the Boxer engine/gearbox together weigh? I'd venture a guess north of 700lbs.
My 365bb with all fluids in, including full tanks of fuel weighed in 3090. Allowances would need to made for the AC compressor being off the car and the Tubi exhaust. At most, another 100 lbs...which would put it at less than 3200 lbs. (We used the Longacre Racing 72582 Computer Scales.) In the FWIW category, the factory weight is alleged at 2720 lbs. I suspect that might be a dry spec...
You probably can't assume that the scale used (for measuring ~80,000 lb big rigs) would have enough accuracy to be sure about such a small difference. The factory US TR curb weight spec is 3660 lb so the result seems about right (and the factory suprisingly honest ).
Wow. Ferrari quoted the Boxer weight to be lower than the glass Euro GTB weight?? Insane Even 3090lbs, how did Ferrari do it with that heavy drivetrain. Heck, a standard 308 QV weighs more than that. Unreal. Thanks for posting that Dave
Keep in mind that the bb has alu panels, other than the roof. The Euro bumpers could be measured in grams (LOL), they're so light. Sound deadening materials were sparse...I do recall a weight of 745 lbs for a wet 365 drive-train, but can't recall if I measured that as some point, or read that. Perhaps Paul has a more accurate or verified figure? There's not an awful lot of meat in the block, so to speak. The transaxle, on the other hand is where the bulk of the mass appears to be. Corner weights were equally impressive, considering the vintage and fixed-perched springs.
Thx guys, I pulled some stuff out of it last nite and it weighed the following: - stock muffler w/mounting hardware 47.0 lbs - Larini SS exhaust 23.5 lbs - factory filter assy w/K&N 12.0 lbs - rear tray w/CF covering 3.0 lbs - clutch heat sheil with mounting hdw 1.0 lbs I'm adding twin turbos, so all this will go bye bye, the turbos with all hot/cold plumbing weigh 65 lbs, so looks like I'll lose roughly 20 lbs...LOL!
Full fuel tanks, luggage and two passengers puts the car well over TWO TONS, hence the reason why a TR is not considered a "sports" car. I've done it and it feels like it in the corners.
