As it is not going to race a convertible might make sense and differentiate it from the McLaren and Porsche ... ? BUT we have already seen the carbon chassis and surely they would not have two different chassis designs? Pete
The upper part is not structural and independent. You can see it at 0:57 of this clip, being attached to the rest of the chassis. http://youtu.be/LM34A_AEIo0 Weight would not need to increase with a carbon fibre tube, and the two versions would mimick Bugatti's strategy.
The fact that an upper part is attached at some point during construction does not make it non-structural, as far as my knowledge goes. In fact, with that upper part including A-pillars at least, it seems to me fully structural. Definitely not a proof that there will be an open-roof version.
I know, but that it was not structural was said previously, in the same way as it isn't in the Enzo, the mp4, Veyron, ... Carbon fibre is different from aluminium. Of course still not proof of anything, just guesswork.
I have not discussed options with the factory. I am waiting like most other people...I have not seen the car either...

The first two pictures of the F150 rather reminds me the 196 SP than the 250 LM, because of the "shark nose".
Where is a shark nose in the first two pictures of the new car? I seriously doubt that it will have something to do with a shark nose as this was the inspiration for the 430, which is really passé by now. The new car is supposed to create a new direction for future Ferrari models, like its predecessors did. Not mimic their decade old base model. Is it possible to see the return of a "P" model, name wise? Like a 712P or something of the sort.
And I wouldn't rule out side intakes of some sort like on the 350P4, which my be giving the reflections we see on the picture of the rear that some think is a wing. http://imageshack.us/a/img833/1046/motbw.jpg Also believe the front to feature an outlet like on this car too, but devided with a horizontal spitter. I think on the front teaser picture we see the reflection of such splitter, which creates the illusion of an intake. http://imageshack.us/a/img163/8201/6mnsf.jpg The interior also seems inspired by these cars.
sorry I can't add another rendering ( I think I'm over 50 of them at this point).. but to those in the know.. aren't we looking at t-minus 2 months at this point??
We're a week away if they choose to do something in Detroit - I still find that extremely doubtful though. I'd expect them to release some advanced images in late January or early February ahead of an official unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show. That's the show of the year for hypercars and it makes the most sense to do something big there. >8^) ER
I wouldn't be surprised if they show *something* in Detroit, to build up the anticipation. Perhaps the carbon fiber tub with the engine bolted to it or something of the sort. However I doubt they will show the final design more than a week or two from Geneva.
Private presentation is supposed to be this month. Geneva is less than 8 weeks away. In any event it is worth the wait....!!!!
Looking back on history with the Enzo, there was actually quite a large gap between the first official photo and the public unveiling at a major motor show. >8^) ER
I beg that they don't release just one photo and wait for 3 weeks like they did with the Enzo, the released pic was but ugly
Peter, in Blue or you will have one in rosso corsa. Best combinaison ever: Rosso corsa / nero. non oficial pic!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
