Window Sticker

I was looking at the original window sticker for my 1993 Mondial T. The sticker price was $113,600 which, according to the Consumer Price Index would be equivalent to a little over $180,000 in 2012. I guess that would buy a new 458 today with a some dealer incentives. Or, for the more pragmatic buyer, an Audi R8 for fun PLUS a Mercedes S Class for every day use.

Also, the window sticker rated the fuel economy at 13/17 (city/highway). Not much difference compared to my new BMW with a twin turbo V-6. ..... So much for 20 years of technological advancement.

 

Yes very interesting, I think that you tend to forget how expensive the 't' was way back then, here in the UK the t cabrio was in the region of £74,000, alot of money.

 

Don't be too hard on the BMW motor. In real life it also tends to be less thirstly than its rating and probably puts out a fraction of the emissions. Mileage is also dependent on weight, so the BMW coupes and sedans are probably a little heavier.

The Mondial mpg rating is probably more like 12/16 after the ratings were adjusted a few years ago to be more realistic. Those are pessimistic, in "normal" driving (not Ferrari normal!), can get 17 all around and about 22 on the highway. I deem those very good given the vehicle age and technology and ultra stiff gearing that Ferrari chose. (4000 rpm in top gear only about 80 mph, BMW should be about 1000 rpm less at that road speed). If you could change out the reduction gears and put some more normal gearing, you could do significantly better mpg with almost no loss of "fun factor"!

Anyone have a sticker for 89 t?

 

Here's a sticker from an 89t. It is my understanding that after the order was placed, the Ferrari dealer offered the buyer $20K to get out of the deal (before the car was delivered) because of the $50K premium that they were able to get at the time!

Does anyone have a sticker for an 88 cab? Curious to see how the price changed between the 3.2 and the T.

My 88 did not come with a sticker, but from the NADA msrp, it was $84k back in 1988.
From the 89 t cab posting here, msrp was $98k, so a difference of about $14k but the T is a totally different car !
However, interesting to note, at today's prices there's not much of a difference bewteen a 3.2 and a T to which I suspect its because of the maintenance engine out vs. in cost of ownership.

I bet the dealer sold her the rust-proofing, body side moulding and fabric protection to go with that spare tire......

 

I was not aware that BMW made V6 engines, but my tuned BMW 335 twin-turbo inline-6 was getting 27+ mpg on my DC to NYC and back runs, and I am not exactly a slow driver.
